For what is arguably the best Star Wars film, the score for the Empire Strikes Back by John Williams indulges in a lot of the same themes and characteristics as the one of A New Hope, yet this time around, he’s well aware of the fans behind the tunes. It feels broader yet less memorable. It also doesn’t seem as noticeable in the film as the previous one. However, it remains a superb composition by Williams.
This is probably the most iconic score in the saga for the most iconic (and best) film in the saga, from Yoda's gorgeous theme, it mixes his wise yet whimsical nature, until it concludes in a soothing tone, and of course Vader's theme, the Imperial March, the most popular theme in the franchise, it represents both Vader and the Empire's sinister presence throughout the whole film, with its melody being heard over and over, until it reaches its darkest tone in Vader's reveal to Luke.
