PUP will yank you in every direction and corner, yet being hit from each angle with the catchiest choruses you’ll hear all year remains constant in abundance.
Morbid Stuff takes all the messy qualities that made PUP standout in the first place – nasally vocals, scathing lyrics, amped-up guitars – and condenses them into a more vibrant experience via the lens of power-pop.
At the heart of it, Morbid Stuff just still sounds like friends having fun and making catchy, cathartic punk anthems for teens and almost-adults alike — offering a brief, but much needed respite from the hell that is everyday life.
The Canadian punks return with an album that matches despair with delight, in which the group evolve into an outfit unafraid to befriend disorder. It is loud, brash and unequivocally thrilling.
Without doubt, one of the finest records of the year so far and—more importantly—an unflinching portrayal of what it means (and what it takes) to be human in this day and age.
Morbid Stuff is a bold step forward for PUP, an incredibly mature record given how filled with anger and contempt it is, containing true moments of insight.
Where Morbid Stuff differs ... is PUP finally manage not only to deliver gusto, but also raw honesty beneath the energy, and it's been packaged brilliantly by producer Dave Schiffman (the Mars Volta, Weezer), who offers the band's sound just as much depth.
With Morbid Stuff, PUP take a jab at all of life’s gruelling troubles in an effort to make some sense of it all and come out on the other side with a loud, energetic and volatile third album, showcasing the band’s best and darkest work.
While ‘Morbid Stuff’ is dark, it couldn’t really be called brooding. Instead, PUP fill the time with gallows humour and infectious pop-punk that comes alive in a sweaty mosh pit.
Despite the heavy subject matter, it seems PUP are having more fun than ever as they pick through the bones of their own annihilation on ‘Morbid Stuff’.
The energy on Morbid Stuff is enough to power a city block, but when the music fades, you’ll be left desolated.
PUP solidifies itself as one of this decade's best pop punk acts with Morbid Stuff.
Morbid Stuff is a much more considered record than breakout sophomore LP The Dream is Over, and the band has jettisoned some of their more overtly grunge signifiers in favour of nuance and colour.
They may be using ‘Morbid Stuff’ to face their demons head on, but there’s a sense of reckless abandon to the whole thing that makes it entirely freeing.
A raucous record celebrating living your truth- even if it is death-obsessed and anxiety ridden. But with bombastic choruses and an energy that just doesn’t quit, PUP still lets the fun they have making music shine through.
A refreshing, sarcastic antidote to fighting misery with the usual greetings card-meets-motivational poster sentiment, ‘Morbid Stuff’ secures PUP’s position at the top of the present-day punk rock pile.
Morbid Stuff reflects the steady growth all around for these fine Canadians who keep showing up with buckets of great material.
Morbid Thoughts is an inspired, catchy punk album, full of punchy, soon-to-be anthems that will please old fans and hook newer ones. However, it is also something else. A brave acknowledgment that life isn't easy and sometimes the worst enemy is that inner voice, hell-bent on beating you down at every turn.
Morbid Stuff is 37 minutes of safe, sweaty space to process your worst feelings when a half-assed meltdown just won’t cut it.
morbid stuff is one of the best modern day pop punk albums, really captivating and catchy.

Maybe I’m doing this album a little more justice than it deserves, especially since I don’t like a lot of pop punk these days…but I just keep coming back to it!
The modern wave of pop punk has been horrendous. Blink-182 made their worst album in 2019, MGK made two of the worst albums I have ever listened to, Waterparks are mid (sorry Legoshi)…and I don’t wanna keep going about the bad things.
There have been a select few exceptions that have made decent pop ... read more
Morbid Stuff feels like a birthday party for the whole history of pop punk. Whether it be the Blink-182’s of the ‘90s or the Paramores and Panic!’s of the 2000s, every sound is celebrated here with PUP’s own touch of lush, bright production and genuinely passionate vocals. It all gives me a lot of hope for the future of the genre as a whole, which I believed to be dead at one point. Sick nasty, my dude!
