Creative production, great verses (especially from the featured artists [especially Rekcahdam & Mega Ran]), great sound bytes and just some rappers in their feelings. Feelings with a sense of humor. It's got a lil' of everything that the kids like these days but not at all in a patronizing way. I mean Kill Bill, Rav, and the EXO folks are young people fresh from internet youth culture. Jazz, hypnagogic pop, self-reflection and, of course, hip hop blend together nearly perfectly. A ... read more
a great collab album from 2 very talented artists, featuring many highlights from the featured artists, including Kill Bill himself. The beats as well man holy shit they are incredible.
favorites: Now You Don’t, Passionfruit, Lovedrug, Lil Empathy, Dirge and When I’m Successful, I’mma Buy a Neo Geo.
8.9/10
I came into this album very unfamiliar with both Rav and Kill Bill:The Rapper, but New Moon has made me a fan of both. The cloud rap project is a super unique combination of lo-fi rap, jazzy hip-hop and even some soul influences. Kill Bill definitely steals the show, his delivery throughout is calm and collected, but still super effective. Songs like “Cult” allow him to show off his elite lyricism and storytelling ability. Rav also has stellar moments. “Saffron” really ... read more
Quick rating change, this is really good.
This album is way better than I expected it to be, I love the sound and lyrics. The whole album has this city vibe if there were a genre for city electronica that's what this would be. The album has an orgasmic beat throughout the whole thing, a very vaporwave-ish sound. It seems to tell a story of sorts with each song having links to previous ones, and the sampling made throughout the LP. The actual vocalisation is fantastic, the contrast between Rav ... read more
This album is a good collab with Rav and Kill Bill. They can talk about dark things at times on this album but I think their styles really overlap nicely. The production on this album is amazing.
(analbumaday day 117) The lyrics for this project are so much fun. They are witty, referential and slightly nerdy and I enjoyed listening in and following what is being said. This whole project was a lot of fun to listen to. The beats were interesting and fun and the delivery and performances were immaculate and flowed so well. The album in general had a nice flow from one song to the other without sounding monotonous. Even the spoken transition felt natural and fun when it could have easily ... read more
☆☆☆☆
Kill Bill's deep, stark delivery heightened by his confidence contrasts so well with Rav's child-like cadence and self-destructive tendencies. Both of them fly so well over these cloudy, abstract beats. Underrated duo, underrated chemistry. One of the best Hip-Hop albums of 2019.
bedroom rap a soothing bop
faves:
1. lovedrug (off that)
2. saffron
3. fair one
4. lil empathy
The delivery of the lyrics mixed with the uniqueness of the production makes this album a really fun jam, while I do think some songs kind of overdo in some factors. Still, this album gets me repeating a chorus in my head for an entire day after I come back to any song and that's one of the few cases I let the lyrical parasite eat my brain whole. Songs like these remove my cerebral kaijus.
I listened to this without any knowledge of what it was literally just because I thought the cover was cool. I don’t think it’s ever happened that I’ve done this with an album and come out of it having loved it.
New Moon is so chockfull of personality. Both Rav and Kill Bill have their own distinct voices and lyrical quirks (both connected by the theme of nostalgia) that make them instantaneously recognizable when they start rapping, and that’s how a duo album should ... read more
Lo-fi hip-hop is one of those subgenres where although it's a trendy style, it's always been very hit-or-miss regarding full-length albums. That being said, this is one of the best albums in style. I've always enjoyed Rav and Kill Bill, so seeing them bring their all on some chill but gorgeous production makes me happy. Indeed an album that deserves a bit more recognition for nearly perfecting the lo-fi hip-hop game.
Favourite Track: Dirge
Least Favourite: Lil Empathy
The absolute best collab album between Rav and Kill Bill with Love Drug and Put it Down becoming some of my favorite songs of all time. It does not disappoint at all during the entire run of the album and need another one of these STAT.
one of my favorite albums of last year. also this was the first album to put me onto the amazing EXO label so thanks for that New Moon! very very bandcamp if that makes any sense but i dont mean that in a negative way, rather it positively cultivates everything GOOD about bandcamp rap. great chemistry between KB and Rav too.
top cutz: Passionfruit, Lovedrug (Off That), Saffron, Dirge, Cult, Fair One, Lil Empathy
flop cutz: none rlly
