Pitchfork

On his first album sung entirely in Spanish, the Uruguayan-American singer-songwriter finds poetry in small moments, with low-key craftsmanship that matches his songs’ quotidian subject matter.

Exclaim!

These are songs for running easy errands, wandering through markets, smelling heavy ripeness. They're outside-voice songs that need the air so that they can breathe.

Loud and Quiet

The ten track here serve as a collection of short stories. Told in Spanish, each one is about everyday life, mundane experiences and ordinary people, with a surreal and comic tone.

A wonderfully light and frolicking album through the fuzzy warmth of Juan Wauters' Universe.

What an interesting album!
I mean I am sure I will never return to this whole project and Juan's actual singing is way too lackluster and off to create any overwhelmingly memorable or passionate moments. The instrumentation is also sort of low key, yet its more latin sound does help it gain its own personality. This project's flaws mainly lie in Juan's vocals and the lack of creative instrumentation.
This is pretty cool and I will return to a couple of songs, but nothing too substantial.

South American / Uruguayan folk music that stirs the emotions, but it takes a few songs before it hits a musical nerve and then the feet begin to shuffle, because that is all they can do when you don't understand the lingo...
