With a few predictable directions to start from, this record is consistently surprising and if nothing else a fun experience to listen to.
Taken together ... Nothing Happens is relatable to a Zeitgeist as much as an age group and shouldn't be missed by those with a certain melancholy-pop sensibility.
While there is nothing unpalatable on Nothing Happens, there is also some intangible ingredient missing from the music.
If I had to describe this album in one word in would be this: Wholesome.
Having heard a couple of Wallows songs before, I was pleasantly anticipating this album. Not as a hardcore fan, but as a having a passing casual interest. And goddamn, I was absolutely loving the time I was having with this album. From the fuzzy, distorted and punchy guitars, to the excellent rhythm section, to the bright and colorful synths, all tied together with steller clean as a whistle yet big and blaring ... read more
Edit: This is perfect, I can't fault this album at all, it's perfect
Edit 2: It's still perfect but not a 100, going back to 90
The more I listen to this album the more I love it, each track really works, and the transitions are orgasmic, to say the least. The flow of this album is amazing and really carries the whole thing. The only songs that break that immersion slightly is the singles themselves, that could be because I've heard them before though, possibly. The album is catchy and fun, ... read more
woo, a pretty good debut album from wallows, im amazed because the album cover was pretty boring.
but know, first impressions are often wrong.
anyways, its an incredibly colourful album.

nothing happens has a variety of sounds, with synths in are you bored yet? and very upbeat guitars in treacherous ... read more
the album that made me fall in love with a band for the first time. rated by a bunch of HATERS. i love the sound of this specific album from this band it reminds me of salty air, the suburbs, and being a teenager. the riff that only friend and do not wait share is really cool does no one else feel that way :(. if you liked spring ep, fuckin love the strokes, and arent too depressed, this is a great listen. fav track: ice cold pool - July 2020
This was one of my most listened to albums ever when it came out, I absolutely adored this as an 8th grader, to the point that going back to it in college is kind of brutal, emotionally speaking. It's very easy to listen to "Nothing Happens" with a straight face and scoff at how generic some of the melodies and lyrics are, but I think that's what I really adore about it. This album exists song to song for the most part, and doesn't try to connect to an overarching theme. I think that ... read more
