While "La Forêt" isn't as emotionally poignant as Jamie Stewart's previous records, it's still great work with more ugly, haunting soundscapes and thoughtful writing.

This album is lush as fuck.

This album is surprisingly dreamy. It's a lot more subdued and melancholic then other Xiu Xiu releases, with the songwriting reminding me of their debut Knife Play. It's a slow burner for sure, but it also sounds very violently childlike, much like the album cover would describe. Not the complete edge fest like most of their other albums.

Yeah it is slower tempo, it is more silky and lush, it is more quite and beautiful. however it doesn’t interest me with the album falling short on expectations. It doesn’t built its tension like previous Xiu Xiu albums have, the lyrics aren’t as discomforting or dreary. I do think it can definitely be emotionally powerful though.
