The most slyly addictive listen of 2019 so far.

Guess I'm slowly losing my head over this one.

Auguste Arthur Bondy's one-dimensional folktronica is still haunted, after all these years, by that depressive sense that something is missing from his life and that same thing is also missing from his music.

A.A. was sort of a cult icon among my college friend group before he fell off the face of the earth. I was shocked and excited to see a return in the new release section here, Unfortunately, I just can't get behind it. The electronic instrumentation is suiting him about as well as it did Malkmus earlier this year. He's also just not as engaging as he once was often droning with his voice as much as his instrumentation.

Imbued with melancholy and brooding atmosphere, this comeback album is timely and resonant through languid, hypnotic sound and immediate storytelling.

Was really excited for Bondy's return, but geez this sounds like it was recorded in some highschooler's bedroom.
