With a strong background in post-rock/avant-garde jazz, ECM veteran guitar player David Torn, put together last year a trio consisting of himself, a saxophone, and drums. "Sun of Goldfinger" is one jazz-fusion record which stops at almost no instrumental boundaries; you will hear implements of noise rock as backing grooves, various classical performances and even plunderphonics. It truly strips down avant-garde jazz in exploration of much fascinating ideas. I would argue some have been done, miles better, by other artists but that shouldn't detract from how alluring it becomes.
