without Electric Counterpoint this record would be unsalvageable to me. the vocal samples, the train whistle, the constant constant fucking repetition of the violins, it's possibly the most grating thing ive ever listened to. not one part of Different Trains was enjoyable to me. an exercise in tedium, rather than interesting repetition.

Electric Counterpoint on the other hand was some nice chill electronic minimalism. anything special? not really, but the bare minimum of decent is ... read more
Steve Reichs finest work. While I believe Different Trains to be slightly better than Electric Counterpoint. both are incredible

this piece is something special, something so special my uncle dedicates monotonous hours to understand it’s most ornate classical foundations: counterpoint. I suggest the highest dose of THC you can handle, a blindfold, noise cancelling headphones, and a Lazy Boy—really any cushy recliner should do.
