'Guilty of Everything' is the noisier, more distorted big brother to Nothing's debut work 'Downward Years To Come', which unfortunately suffers the same fate of being pretty generic.
Despite being objectively 'basic', it's still enjoyable from start to finish, with a warm, soothing sea of noise on each track that envelops you completely if you let it.
It does fold back in on itself after a certain point, with some of the ideas and modes from earlier songs popping up again on later tracks. ... read more
Guilty of Everything is an interesting debut that put Nothing on the map and showcased a lot of their potential, with a dreamy, intense and noisy sound that feels emotional and honest in every moment.
this album has become a pioneer for the modern age of shoegaze and will be remembered as such. it hasn't aged too much since i first heard it when it dropped. each song and the album tell a story and it's not all about the noise. for the most part guilty of everything still sounds fresh with massive production. hymn to the pillory and b&e are flawless tracks. probably my favorite album from nothing. the concept behind this album is also harrowing. 90/100
Nothing's debut album (though I'm 10 years late to reviewing it I was really into this band in 2020) is far from from innovative, and about half the album is just not very interesting and only has one redeeming quality. That being the really balanced and gorgeous production on this album, it's nothing too unique but it's very well done.
