This album caught me from surprise in a good way. I really enjoyed her last album "A seat at the table" but the run-time on it made me return less on it with some of the deeper cuts on there feeling not as fully fleshed out. However with her newest album 'When I get home' shows Solange maturing as a songwriter and the production on here feeling lively. What makes this a great album in my eyes is the list of collaboration features that complement the aesthetics on here. The most ... read more

Omg definitely my album of the year so far. All things here fits almost perfectly; production, lyrics, vocals, even the playboy carti and mane features works hella well in a beautiful, strange and confortable soulful experience.

(The 'almeda' track is pure gold)

Idk man it was nice but it came off a bit undercooked and redundant to me, Solange really wasn't an engaging enough figure at the helm here to carry these pretty subtle instrumentals. The beats aren't bad, they just really sound like they're shooting to just be as passive as possible so it'd help to have a singer with a lot of presence to really bring them to life, but idk Solange didn't really do that for me on this thing like she did on A Seat At The Table. Carti track is sick tho.

The production is such a highlight on this and I love just how different WIGH is from ASATT. Lighter subject matters, sexier and just happier in general. The colaborations are great as well and are easily the highlights.

The nose/eyelid jewelry is my favorite part of this album; she looks STUNNING on the cover.

Solange continues her exploration of value and identity through a sonically textured, thematically dense record. While it will take some time for me to digest the lyrical content, the way that Solange creates songs is fascinating. Her music has an inherent sense of community built into it through the diversity of sounds and voices. I think the album particularly shines from 'Almeda' to the end as it ... read more

Holy shiiiit how did I not know about this

Solange’s voice is honestly just so goddamn sexy, let’s be honest. Her vocal deliveries are hust so smooth and effortless and she has this subtle swagger about her that can be infectious at times. This is a very good moody album to dim the lights to but at first listen it didnt seem to be nearly as emotionally or politically charged as her previous record. I definitely plan on doing a deep dive into this one

Though it doesn't feel quite as weighty as Solange's previous album, When I Get Home is quite the beautiful listen, one that begs to have your full attention. To be honest, I initially found myself underwhelmed, but this is an album designed to be heard in full without distraction so that you can lose yourself in Solange's rich voice and the spectacular and smooth production. I will still say that I do wish there was a bit more to some songs, as a handful do little more than repeat a phrase ... read more

A whole album of minimal meandering ‘non event’ neither here nor there music and indistinct r n’ b/gospel warbling.

I wonder what others experience is but for me this record, ended up playing in the background of my last two days, blocking out construction noise, while walking to classes, skating to that 24 hour burrito place, when I get home, being under-dressed at an overly dressed function, sleeping in through the hangover. This album has sort of found its pocket for me, and it did itself "My Skin My Logo" the clearest example of a track that's more about its mood and repetition than its ... read more

Good

Yep, alongside Björk and Mitski, I think I have a new celebrity crush. Through her soaring vocals and mononeon-like instrumentals, Solange completely takes the helm of the ship on this new record. With a great blend of chill R&B and some experimental aspects, it’s a treat to listen to!

On here, Solange arguably pieces together a coherent project with a consistent blend of dreamy R&B ballads which based on the crew that made this album happen, it doesn’t surprise me.

This album admittedly begins with a fairly rough start, which almost made me lose all hope, but then we hit the beautiful “Stay Flo” which is the first track I thoroughly enjoyed. After that we have dreams which finally slows down and swaps out the rickety drum beats for something more slow ... read more

The album feels a little disjointed and less purposeful compared to A Seat at the Table, and occasionally carries the "song sketch" feel we've come to expect from Flying Lotus or Earl Sweatshirt. By the time you get to the second half of the album the actual songs aren't much longer than the interludes, and some of the most intriguing ideas aren't given enough room to breathe (the electric piano mimicking her spoken word on "Can I Hold the Mic," the rhythmic jamming on ... read more

A very laid back and soothing sounding album. Solange has incredible vocals mixed very soft and fantastic instrumentals that are great for when you are studying or on a nice drive/walk home. The features on here are great as well!! They all end up mashing very with this laid back album even with someone like Playboi Carti who is usually known for rapping over hard hitting trap beats provides a nice feature that oddly fits him. I totally love this album!!

DID SHE REALLY SAMPLE YOUTUBE BACKGROUND MUSIC ON THE INTERMISSION I'M ACCENDING

This being my first Solange album, I gotta say i'm pretty really impressed with what I heard here. The flow of this album is second to none, feeling like a living breathing album rather then just a collection of songs. The instrumentation and production is some of the best I've heard all year, with it's almost prog-like instrumentation working so goddamn well with Solanges voice it's almost criminal. There is so ... read more

"When I Get Home" stunned me the whole way through! The production is immaculate, the features are excellent and Solange's voice is downright sexy and silky smooth! Overall, this is a beautiful and cohesive record! Highly recommend you listen to this in a dimly lit room. It just makes the listening experience even better!

Y'all must've been tired as hell streaming this at midnight last night. It's certainly pretty, but doesn't feel like much more than an album of interludes. When a Playboi Carti feature is the least repetitive part of your project...yikes.

EDIT: This isn't actually better than a seat at the table. It is really great, fresh, elegant, different from ASATT but definitely not better
At first I thought that is wasn't better than A seat at the table, but after a few listens I get that this is different and there is nothing wrong with that, I mean imagine if we would've got another similar record... with nothing new to offer...
Anyways, this record was beautiful, Solange has proven us that she has talent, musical creativity and even ... read more

I was kinda afraid of listening to this album at the start, because besides my love of modern neo-soul and the amazing features, the lenght of the songs and the number of interludes had me kinda "what the f-". But in the reality, this album flows incredibly well? I listened to this entire thing without pausing a single time because of how invested I was.
Yeah, in general, great project, really fun and worth a listen 8/10

Some great vocal work from Solange but it's atmospheric psychedelic tone could have been executed better, often tracks feel overly repetitive and unfinished. The production is immaculate and perfectly encapsulates the smooth classy r&b sound Solange wanted, just some of the writing is weak to say the least. I do enjoy several songs from the record but it absolutely could have been even greater.

Magical. Dreamy. Electric. Exotic. Solange's 4th studio album features some of the most beautiful production I've heard all year and pulls of some of the most unlikely and unexpected collaborations in music.

Solange has a beautiful voice and the spacey and atmospheric production was cool. Features were well integrated. Both Playboi Carti and Gucci Mane did a terrific job on their features. However, some of the songs feel very repetitive.

No doubt that Solange's vocals are beautiful. The production, which is definitely the highlight of this album,is very nice.Another thing is the smooth flow of each track into the other. Moreover, what I found interesting the most is that it didn't sound as long as a 19-track album would,at least in my opinion.

However,I have a few problems with this album.First,it's lyrically REPETITIVE that makes some of the songs dull as they progress.Second, the number of interludes found in it,which I often ... read more

that hook between 'can i hold the mic' and 'stay flo' though 😮 and also i hope she made a full version of nothing without intention because the interlude is lit enough. 😭😭

After almost 3 years, Solange brings another great record to the table, an R&B/Soul album with great, chill production, stunning vocals and excellent use of collaborations.
I would normally complain about the interludes, since they're mostly tracklist fillers, but I have to say that I enjoy them, most of them work really good in order to improve the flow of the record.

This is a pretty record but I find that it constricts itself way too often with repetitive sounds and melodies. It's when it lets itself loose that this album shines but unfortunately that doesn't happen too often. Background music for me

How have I not heard of Solange before? Her voice is so good that I would've thought that people would talk about her more.
Solange has really impressed me with this record. I mean, it sounds so goddamn good. I'm actually surprised and I don't know what else to say. I do think that a lot of the songs were too short, making it harder to form opinions on certain songs, but at the same time it might have hurt them to make them longer.

While "When I Get Home" doesn't completely stick the landing, there are some fun and unique quirks to this album that make it a solid and enjoyable listen.

This album shows brings forward a classic and straightforward R&B approach to groove, but what makes this release stand out to me is the fact that much of the songs aren't too big or long. The same way hardcore punk bands make 30-50 second songs that kick your head in and contain a lot of hell packed in to that short little ... read more

An average album overall. Some hits like Stay Flo, Almeda and Dreams, but some HUGE misses like every single interlude and some soulless songs. Still, a tone of potential was shown and I'm looking forward to her new project.

Fantastic aesthetic throughout the record, but it needed some stronger songwriting. Found it difficult to focus on the music at times.
