Jeez, that was rough. I'm not a huge fan of Prince to begin with, I love a couple songs of his but overall his sleazy funk/pop rock sound just isn't for me. His second film soundtrack is far from the quality of Purple Rain's, and it kind of sucks. I wasn't even aware he had made another film soundtrack prior to this, but I guess that's forgivable considering that most people think that "Under the Cherry Moon" is crap anyways.

Prince opened the floodgates to his eclectic kingdom. Parade musically is so divers, yet overwhelming in the execution of his ideas it blows my mind. HyperPop before the genre got invented. It´s like a sketchbook of a singular talent, songs and sounds are treated in a take it or leave it manner, without eyeing at a possible audience or customer. Here Prince showed us that he lived in "Planet Prince", carrying the gigantic weight of directing a film, which had to fulfill many expectations after the success as a Purple Rain film, it would also be his last album with The Revolution, it is clear that Prince was already beginning to live on his planet in Paisley Park. This is a bit of a hot take. But as a big Prince fan, this soundtrack never did much for me. Kiss really carries this whole thing. The majority of the other tracks are not of the same caliber of Prince’s other work from the 80s.
