Pitchfork
A Silver Mt. Zion, a Godspeed side project featuring guitarist Efrim Menuck, bassist Thierry Amar, and violinist Sophie Trudeau, forgoes the thick, orchestral sounds of the Montréal nine-piece, opting instead for a more subtly orchestrated three-to-five-piece arrangement.

AllMusic
With this early 2000 release on Montreal's Constellation label, Efrim, Thierry, and Sophie of Godspeed You Black Emperor! (also on Constellation) create a sound similar to that of GYBE!, but less mournful and more gentle. Layers of string sections surround inner rings of light echoes, surrounding a core of sparsely played, reverberating guitar.

Over Efrim‘s desolate piano motifs, strings and various extraneous sounds gradually circle one another, intertwining to form a sparse web of oscillating wonder that’s less visceral than the full GYBE! experience but whose emotional impact is just as keenly felt.

Hmmm... One of the most underrated albums of the 2000's?

Well, I guess even Godspeed You! Black Emperor's side projects are better than some bands' whole discographies. I actually stumbled upon this album through some random guy on Tik Tok who mentioned it among some of the best post rock albums of all time. I had no idea that this was originally a Godspeed side project, and when I found out I was unexplainably interested. After listening, I believe that it's one of the most underrated post ... read more

So the other day I went to Chipotle, and as it turns out they are understaffed. It's 8:30 pm on a Thursday (20:30 for all yall military folks) and there is a mere two people working there. One of them was a 4'2 (127 cm) blonde dude who was recording a tik tok dance while the other one was a slim figure that I could not make out because he was behind the grill. I signal the person in front of me, who was the only other person there besides the two "employees", as he is also waiting for ... read more

<#6> Reviewing every item I own physically - A Silver Mt. Zion - He Has Left Us Alone, But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace The Corner Of Our Rooms...

I've been a big fan of Godspeed's work for such a long time, and that of course doesn't exclude their related project, A Silver Mt. Zion, which many consider to be a classical spin on the original GY!BE formula. Their first album, He Has Left Us Alone... is by far their most well known and acclaimed record.

[one - "lonely as the sound ... read more
