Ok, to get it out there, I’m a complete On-U Sound/Adrian Sherwood nut, so I want to love this. Hands up, Lee Perry was a genius on the desk, what he achieved with so few tracks back in those Black Ark days is nothing short of astounding. Look no further than The Congos ‘Heart of the Congo’s’ for confirmation there. On the mike however things can become pretty tiresome. Would be even better with less of Lee's vocals.
There might be times when you might wonder "am I listening to a genius or to some old guy who hasn't got a clue anymore?". But most of the times you'll be happy with Rainford. Cool dub music, nothing spectacular, mind you, but a nice dub album that will surely work for a party.
