Some days you just want to get funky.
Let me begin this review by thanking Owen Dennis, creator of the animated show Infinity Train, for including Word Up! in one of the episodes. This reminded me of the song's existence and how much I absolutely love it. As an aside, if you haven't watched Infinity Train, please do! It's an incredible show. The explosive breakthrough to massive radio play, a timeless pop & electrofunk groove that really gets you funked up. This is Cameo at their peak, Larry Blackmon really lets loose, slipping into what would become his iconic vocal delivery henceforth. Mega-hits like Candy, Word Up, Back & Forth, not only still see heavy radio play and in film, but have all been sampled by hip-hop and become hits again.
