CRITIC REVIEWS

Pretty Much Amazing

Deep Fantasy is incisive and immersive. It has real depth and space, even color: it’s filled with exquisite little turns, playful flashes of sound-for-sound’s-sake brilliance.

Exclaim!

Boasting a bigger sound with better songwriting, Deep Fantasy pulls no punches, yet still emerges as White Lung's boldest and most accessible album to date.

86
Pitchfork

Deep Fantasy is definitely savvy, ensuring its staunch ideals are delivered by a riveting, relatable frontwoman and 22 minutes of vicious, compact musicianship and addictive melody.

80
The Line of Best Fit

This is twenty seven minutes of searing punk rock, blistering guitars, brilliant singing, incredible drumming and there’s never a dull moment or weak point.

80
Drowned in Sound

It is not often that you hear such frankness in tandem with such brevity, and it is this that makes Deep Fantasy such a spectacular record.

80
DIY

White Lung sound absolutely enormous on 'Deep Fantasy', and it's a testament to their stamina and technical abilities that they just do not let up on the pace.

80
The 405

All over music that sounds like taking a bath in sandpaper and brick dust.

80
Spin

Deep Fantasy is exhausting, cathartic and a little scary.

80
Tiny Mix Tapes

White Lung demand attention, engaging heart-to-heart conversations while simultaneously rioting.

75
Consequence of Sound

It’s rare that a record holds your attention from start to finish, but because Deep Fantasy is undiluted, its finest qualities are glowingly apparent.

70
AllMusic

Her performances evoke all the anger and passion of the alt-punk heroes that inform White Lung's sound, but surpass many of them when it comes to control or the incredible clarity in her spitting, snarling delivery.

70
NME

When the four piece successfully seize the middle ground between Motorhead and L7 – as they do on the gutter-metal pummel of ‘In Your Home’ and the unforgiving ‘Down It Goes’ – White Lung slay punk’s modern pretenders.

Arguably one of my favorite rock albums of the ‘10s, ever since hearing their self-titled album back in 2011 and loving Wild Failure, White Lung has become my favorite rock band (other than Wolf Alice) of today’s day and age. The noisy, punk, hard-hitting energy on this album is just contagious and addicting

Pretty much an album which offers up a lot of what I dislike about 90's rock/punk revivalism. Uninteresting female lead, who seems like she thrives off her appearance unfortunately, bland songwriting you can hear in any mid-90's rock/punk acts, and angsty lyrics a "poet" from a blog on Tumblr can write. Overall, it's mediocre, with its saving graces being the occasional catchy song.
