The Line of Best Fit

With Loom, Fear of Men have proven to be just as brilliantly complex as that natural wonder they so often invoke – deep, refreshing, mysterious, life-affirming.

90
AllMusic

Fear of Men come all that much closer to the mastery of their uniquely conflicted perspective on pop music with Loom, offering a set of songs as effortlessly enjoyable as they are smart, as inspired as they are hopeless.

90
Tiny Mix Tapes

The grinding textures into which various of Fear of Men’s indie jangles disappear on Loom, their first album proper may be both the crashing of the breakers and the grinding of Chronos’s teeth.

80
DIY

A record which could engulf you if you give it chance; where sounds and textures merge together to create a beautifully bleak story.

80
NME

While the pristine glass surfaces of Fear Of Men’s lilting guitar pop offer an illusion of tranquillity, beneath the beauty lie troubled depths.

80
No Ripcord

Loom seems to touch upon many periods within the extensive annals of indie pop, but Fear of Men put their own stamp with smart, modish pop tunes that intend to make sorrow, in the face of uncertainty, sound invigorating.

Exclaim!

Anyone who can get past the timid first impression will find plenty of fascinating layers and beautiful music to love on Loom.

Consequence of Sound

How could something so floaty be so dour? How could a voice so ethereally gorgeous express such existential sentiments? The key seems to be in art and riding the line between sweetness and despair; there’s a duality here, and it’s present throughout Fear of Men’s debut album, Loom.

75
A.V. Club

Though Loom can occasionally feel familiar, lacking in grand ambitions, its still-confident songs are meticulously crafted and packed with moments of shimmering pop splendor.

68
Pitchfork

Personal melancholy and romantic dread loom large, while an ever-present ocean of ambiguously deep feelings threatens to wash everything away.

Perfect album to listen to in the rain or as you lay down for bed. Loom is the first album I've heard by Fear of Men and they have definitely won me over with their soothing beats and her soft vocals.
