A Sufi and a Killer is a record which almost reminds me of J Dilla's "Donuts" to an extent. Short tracks that provide one great sound and quickly moving onto the next thing. A project which flows really well despite taking samples and sounds from all sorts of genres. The production from Gonjasufi is just insane and makes for one listen that never feels boring as experimentation and innovation presented sounds unique and entirely it's own sound. Just never got the hype on this. Sounds like Mac Miller singing his best Citizen Cope impersonation. The lyrics and singing aren't particularly good or intriguing and it's all done on top of samples that are decent. The songs don't overstay their welcome, but at 20 tracks it does become something of an endurance test in this style. I don't think anything is overly bad and do recommend at least checking it out. It's fairly accessible.
Best Track: Kowboyz&Indians
Worst Track: Sheep
This man literally is just singing over samples. And it's great. Gonjasufi came out of nowhere with this album. It feels like a strange, trippy, hypnotic fever dream. Underrated and a personal favorite ever since first listen. Might be a little long, but the songs don't overstay their welcome.
