Spectrum Culture

The band invites the listener ... into a conversation between this album and Life Metal ... The two releases – their interconnections and divergences in both sound and space – combine to make up one of the most consequential metal releases of the decade.

Pitchfork

Pyroclasts feels about as close to that completeness as a metal album by a druid-robed group named after their amplifiers can get.

Under the Radar

Pyroclasts sounds like a new light breaking forth from below.

The Needle Drop

Pyroclasts' improvisational concept yields Sunn O)))'s most stimulating set of drones all decade.

I love Sunn 0))
I really do but this just feels very uninspired and just blends it with one another

I don’t get the tepid response to this album. It’s drone metal - what more could you possible expect from this? It’s thick, gritty atmospheric metal…that drones. In so far as what it sets out to be - it completely delivers. I’m not sure what other people were expecting but this is what Sunnn does, and once again they’ve done it well.
