This album feels more grounded than “Wowee Zowee (1995)”, no pun intended. Instead of being all over the place, Malkmus and company find a great alt rock niche and run with it.

Brighten the Corners includes several moments which reach the brilliance achieved by the band's two first albums. The less good songs are quite good too. Another impressive record.

It's hard to rate this album in comparison to the likes of S&E and CR,CR, but Brighten the Corners is definitely a classic. Lots of awesome rifts, a few of Pavement's best songs come out of this one (Stereo, Embassy Row, Shady Lane). Really enjoy this record!
