Chon is clean and chill math rock. The songs are a bit more mature than Chon's previous work but I actually find them more boring. There are nice melodies in Chon but the songs are way too similar. The album is so consistent to the point where I have trouble distinguishing the songs—they literally sound the same with the same guitar tone and everything.
I highly recommend math rock to anybody who needs some study/work music with a bit more energy than lofi hiphop.
While the good moments shine brightly, Chon fails to do more than continue pushing the same sound we've seen from Instagram guitarists and YouTube artists like Yvette Young (thanks to Emme_Strt for pointing out this lovely detail and making me feel like i'm not crazy or alone on this). There is very little received from this album that you couldn't get from browsing instagram or watching youtube videos of any technical guitarist in the last ten years, or even more.

this album was just inoffensive as hell in my opinion, perfect for a cafe setting, maybe some people would listen to this while studying, but thats where most of the charm is; its just some instrumental tracks that are chilled out rock songs
however, with that inoffensiveness comes a cost; the album is kinda boring, resides on the safe side of things, it doesnt try to be anything super unique; and maybe thats good for mass appeal, but holy, it just feels like its there, and thats all
