Cave In has always been one of metalcore's most interesting names. They incorporated elements of genres of music that most bands didn't even think to blend with metalcore (space rock, progressive rock, and alt-metal among them). In hindsight, they were very much ahead of their time; so many metalcore bands these days are incorporating progressive elements these days, "progressive metalcore" is pretty much a verified genre at this point. Massachusetts alt-metal outfit's sixth studio album and touted to be their 'swan song' record, a tribute to their late bassist Caleb Scofield, who died tragically in a car crash last year, this is a meaningful, earnest effort inspired by a tragedy yet coming out as a strong singular unit assembling the best they had without losing sight of their vision: to celebrate the life, the friend and a musician gone too soon. This is a stirring paean Caleb with be surely proud of.

The metalcore pioneers from Massachusetts release their first album in 8 years. It’s the final material featuring bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield, who tragically died in 2018. It’s a heavy yet melodic sounding record with dark themed lyrics. Stylistically, it sits in between the band’s louder metalcore and accessible post-hardcore sound. While the sentiment behind this album being a tribute to the band's late drummer Caleb Scofield, outside of a few tracks this album doesn't really provide all that much that I would personally return to.
