This record fails in doing what Back to Black succeeded in doing, and that's painting the true picture of who Amy Winehouse was. Frank is elementary soul for the most part. There's some attempts in the lyricism to establish her bruised urban sweetheart persona but it just doesn't come through quite right. The instrumental elements are just too twinkle and flutter.
