NME

You have to respect ScHoolboy Q’s dedication to showing us a different outlook on life, and exploring many emotions. Introspective – yes, but these are songs for the summer.

Exclaim!

From those raw, candid lyrics, to ScHoolboy's increasing pop acumen, CrasH Talk reveals many sides of an increasingly (and compellingly) unpredictable MC.

70
Highsnobiety

Though CrasH Talk contains a few moments of brilliance, it is easily the flattest album in Q’s catalogue.

70
AllMusic

An album that isn't without moments as bleak and bleary as anything in Q's back catalog. There's a whole lot of self-medication, loss of faith, denial, mistrust, and dejection.

68
HipHopDX

It’s not that ScHoolboy needs a hit to survive but CrasH Talk provides less insight to his life than Habits & Contradictions, less creative experimentation than Blank Face LP and even fewer distinct hits than Oxymoron.

67
Pitchfork

The L.A. rapper’s latest is comforting if not entirely exciting. It finds Q and host of guests in a good place with nothing to prove.

58
Pretty Much Amazing

Maybe it’s not unexpected: after working so hard for years ... so he did what many, many musicians eventually do: he went on autopilot.

50
The Needle Drop

CrasH Talk sounds strangely dated and is a disappointingly safe effort from Q following Blank Face.

40
The 405

The only thing that's unique about it is that he’s never made an album like this. Without knowing who made it, you might think it's from someone who's been rightfully passed over for the XXL Freshman List.

I keeping telling myself that this isnt really happening. That Schoolboy didnt actually make an album this bad and that everything is still okay. But unfortunately everything is not okay. This album really is that bad. Im at an absolute loss for words.

Lmaooo I actually like it.

I knew right from the IG Stories Q would not be creating a story or conceptual album. For this reason I took CrasH Talk for what it is and that's a slap-heavy and enjoyable car-ride album.

I totally understand the bad reviews and I'd feel disappointed, as I do see some missteps for songs, but listening to this in the car with a crew of people felt extremely satisfying for what it is.

Honestly I don't wanna defend myself for liking this because people don't. This ... read more

The cover says it all: Q alienated his personality, and any remaining shred of charisma he once had, to drop a cash-grab of an album that panders to the trap trends of today.

As a project CrasH Talk manages to be pretty heavy despite the 40 minute runtime. Boredom throughout with few highlights.

Btw I don’t understand why you’d get Lil Baby on your album when Young Thug and even Gunna exist.

Best: Floating, Numb Numb Juice, Attention

Worst: Drunk, Lies
