Like the Beasties, Strictly Business’s excellence lies in its utilisation of well-known (and obscure) samples in a way that almost forces association not with the original but with the new track.

There was really only one theme at work here -- the brilliancy of EPMD, or the worthlessness of sucker MCs -- but every note of Strictly Business proved their claims.

The beats are relatively consistent, although you'll tend to prefer some over others. I wouldn't say any song here is outright bad, just some that drag on a little more then others. Definitely a product of its time, this album, though it hasn't aged the greatest, definitely pushed the boundaries in terms of lyrics and samples within the genre. It's nice background music, but not too much lyrical substance to go off of. A pleasant listen, but nothing super special I find myself wanting to return to besides a few tracks here and there.

Best Songs: Strictly Business, You Gots To Chill, I'm Housin', Jane

I'm not so much into '80s rap but I'm starting to listen to some projects. This album surprised me, even though I didn't grow up with that sound, I think it's really good.
