Sorry Rage Against The Machine self-titled, but Boris with Merzbow's Rock Dream is now my favourite metal album of all time.
This team-up is simply perfect. Although Boris and Merzbow's first collaborations were very rough around the edges, once they got a grasp of what worked best - being Merzbow simply adding his noise to Boris' already complete songs - you could really feel Merzbow adding to the band as a whole. i feel like i've been waiting my entire life for this album. it's like, all my musical experiences in the past year and a half have culminated into this masterwork. it's one of those albums that, on the first listen, just changes your life. this is essentially a Boris greatest hits record, featuring additional cacophony from one of the most iconic/infamous fixtures in noise music, Merzbow. and, while the hissing screeches from radio-ready Merzy can occasionally feel a bit extraneous and obnoxious, i'd be lying to say 90% of the time they don't work flawlessly in tandem with Boris' already headsplitting stoner/noise metal. really good stuff, i recommend for anyone looking to get into harsher styles of noise.
