Hello! And welcome to Album of the Year reviewer tutorial!
Step One: Being a New Zealander on this site is like a constant lottery win, because we get records a day early, meaning that I can put anything in this review and because it's early, the algorithm helps me out and I can be a shameless whore every Friday!
Step Two: Make sure no one does a review more then 5 likes before you post. Hell, I'm probably too late to this record, because I didn't wake up on the spot at 1am!
Step Three: Write ... read more

I’ll go in depth later, but for now, I’ll just say that this is one of the most creative rap albums you’re gonna hear all year

Injury Reserve have been making waves in rap music for five years now, so it's weird that this is technically their first studio album. 2016's Floss was well realized enough to be a a full album, but the band labeled it a mixtape instead. Now that we have the actual debut though, I'm happy they chose this to introduce themselves to the musical world ... read more

Quite literally one of the most creative and personality filled rap albums of the year so far.

Disclaimer: hey guys so i got fired last week and just have been exhausting all of my efforts into establishing myself as a photographer and finding a new job. I just simply have not had the time or energy to keep up with this site. I feel a growing discontent with feeling like I have to force myself to stay awake on Friday mornings just so that my opinions will get noticed. Its starting to feel ... read more

Injury Reserve's new album is a treat for any hip hop/rap fan. It's really well produced, it has it's bangers and it's most vulnerable moments, the flow is mostly great, and the creativity here is endless. Some more disappointing moments here and there but generally, the album succeeds at delivering an intense and interesting experience. What A Year It's Been and Hello?! have to be my favorite members of the album.

The three SPAZZ RAP musketeers: RiTchie with a T, Big ol' Stepa and Lil good boy Corey, are back at it again for another project. This time, an actual LP!

Injury Reserve are easily one of my favorite and most intriguing new hip hop acts that practically came out of nowhere! Ever since their debut mixtape, Live At The Dentist Office, I've been hooked into their refreshing and creative west coast hip hop sound and I can proudly say that I'm a fan (though some of you probably enjoy them even more ... read more

Great

Edit: This grew on me a little. lol

Original Score: 78, Good

I thought this would've been better, but sadly, I'm overall underwhelmed. I found songs I liked, nonetheless, but I'm not going to return to this as a whole. The back half of the record feels a bit boring and uninspired, but the front half is lively and a lot more fun, mostly likely because that's where all the singles are. Maybe I'm going too hard on it and I was just hyped up too much.

Glitchy guys do glitchy rapping over glitchy beats.

It's glitching awesome.

Hot damn, okay I've found my new rap AOTY. This album just sounds so unbelievably creative, the production is glitchy and ecstatic (and quite industrial at times) and the bangers BANG. The production on this album is easily some of the most creative and wild you'll hear on a hip-hop album this year, and when the production doesn't support the song the glitchy effects put on their voices at times will most certainly ... read more

Injury Reserve's new album is a interesting fusion of a futuristic, industrial-inspired production style mix with some of the most creative lyricism the hip-hop world has seen in a long time. Fucking brilliant.

Amazing

There's something so unnatural about the nature of this album, there's something so awkward about the trio's delivery. It's only until the final moments where I could actually stomach these guys.

Either the album grew on me, or this was intentional. All the best verses are lined up here later on the project; Wax On and What a Year It's Been.

And all the vibrant instrumentals are lined up at the VERY end with New Hawaii and Three Man Weave

Injury Reserve also has EXCELLENT ... read more

Injury Reserves new album is not only one of the best rap albums of the year, but it is a definite contender for album of the year for me. The sound is just so infectious that you can't not move when listening. That alone made this record a blast to get through.
Also, this is easily one of the best written albums of the year so far. All of the verses and hooks are nothing short of great, and when even your interludes are incredible interesting and entertaining then you know you're doing ... read more

An impressive release from the experimental hip-hop trio, with brilliant production throughout, regardless of a track being a banger or a more introspective and conscious piece. No track singly stands out to me as either amazing nor terrible, but instead the album as a whole flows together effectively and allows for the product as a whole to grow and build together as a unit. This doesn't come out as my favorite Injury Reserve release still, but after a few more listens I could see it growing ... read more

Injury Reserve never desappoint me. In hopes of popularizing the Phoenix Rap scene, Injury Reserve, a group of two rappers, rappers Stepa J. Groggs and Ritchie With a T, and producer Parker Corey, take up the codes of hardcore hip-hop and sometimes jazz rap and combine them with the kind of experiment of JPEGMAFIA. Their brilliant mixtapes, "Floss" and "Live From the Dentist Office", have allowed them to be recognized as one of the best underground hip-hop bands. In 2019, ... read more

The scope of this one is way larger with many more mainstream approaches encompassed throughout. It doesn't result in lower quality at all, actually attracts a much larger audience finally, while pleasing fans who are still bumping Live at the Dentist Office.
Extras: Freddie Gibbs x Injury Reserve is hands-down best collaboration of 2019

Chose to delete my shitty review and say something else. Over these last few days I've just felt as if there's been way too many conflicts going on here on this website. I'm probably one of the worst when it comes to just staying calm and not going back at someone in some way, but it still hurts me to see users that I follow and think are an important part to this website and genuinely entertaining people going at each other on a music reviewing website. I understand that people can say things ... read more

It’s good, but a tiny bit disappointing considering how much I loved Floss. Injury Reserve are still great with their flow, it’s not too fast where I can’t understand what they saying, it not too slow where it just becomes boring. The album is pretty confident with it self and feels pretty sharp. The guest features in the album made sense to put in the album and they do their job pretty well, Rico Nasty was the main spotlight of all of the features. The first half was pretty ... read more

I had already listened to two of their mixtapes and this LP was very surprising to me. At first, I thought it didn't live up to their previous works, but now this is really hitting.

Arizona Trio Stepa J. Groggs, Ritchie With a T, and producer Parker Corey’s First studio album, is an aggressive fun filled debut full of bangers, witty lyricism, and some introspective moments.

Similar to their mixtapes “Floss”, and “live From The Dentist Office” Injury Reserve are consistently bold throughout and have not lost any of their unique personality or style.
The groups producer Parker Corey continues to be the musical heartbeat providing Stepa and ... read more

This record is very inconsistent. Most of the tracks don't feel fully realized and a bit sloppy. My enjoyment swings from highs and lows as the record unfolds and I end up feeling like there should have been something more.

The album was pretty fire. I like how experimental the neats where and just how insane some of the songs got. A flaw I can say about it is that some songs felt to long or just ok.

FANTASTIC

Injury Reserve's self-titled debut studio album is my first full outing with the group, and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction. The moods range from frantic to calm to sentimental to some of the most experimental hip hop I've heard in the past few months. It's endlessly creative, super versatile, and in the end, it's so easy to love.

This turned out great. Lyrics, production, beats- it's all pretty top notch. This likely won't be rap AOTY for me but I am happy with how consistent Injury Reserve have continued to be. Their creativity has stayed high and I love that about them.

One of the most exciting voices in the rap scene today. Period.

Corey did a great job in the production and so is Stepa and Ritchie with their verses. Their previous stuff is good but drab at some points (or at least to me). This record somehow breaks that wall of me from enjoying an Injury Reserve project. Finally.

This record is NOT just another experimental rap album which throws you just clanky beats and noises. NOT just fun and goofy as hell (first half) BUT ALSO serious, sincere and ... read more
