It's weird how we disapprove of Stans for artists like Ariana Grande because they flood the reviews, but at the end of the day we are the just the same.

Anyway, we Stan Tyler the Creator and his seemingly endless creativity.

Tyler could have literally done anything with this project. Like anything. Coming straight off of Flower Boy, the album that expanded Tyler's potential from dark, distorted and demented persona to pop star in seemingly hours. So the question with this record, which had no ... read more

Oh look, a new BROCKHAMPTON album!

This is Tylers most conceptual and introspective release to date. It has been quite the ride watching this guy come full circle with his artistry. Without a doubt the most meaningful piece of work of his career so far. I could only have hoped for this album to turn out this good after his extreme change of pace with 2017’s Flowerboy.

Tyler has revitalized the publics image of him and perception of his music. No longer is he the vulgar and abrasive ... read more

Is Playboi Carti on the album:

Bastard: ❌

The Grinch EP: ❌
Igor: ✔️

I think we can all see what the best album is.

Edit: Wooah they got The Ponderosa Twins on this shit too!

Okay, this is actually pretty great.

Review:
My experience with this album is one of the reasons why rushing a rating or review out after first impressions is not a wise choice by anyone, because this definitely took a bit of time to digest. I'm expecting a lot of differing opinions by the end of the week, whether good or bad.

Anyways, I think this is probably the most interesting Tyler The ... read more

Might as well invite the BTS bots back with all these empty perfect ratings.

This album is by no means bad. In fact, I couldn't pick a least favorite song. Tyler remains consistent across this project by creating mediocre songs; the best part of the album is Playboi Carti's appearance on Earfquake. What Tyler proved on Igor is that he values aesthetic over substance. There is a very clear theme and sound to this project, remaining pretty prominent on all 12 songs. But that sound and ... read more

When those late night childhood commercials that creeped you out is put into music form, it's just beautiful.
I’m at a lost of words. Fuck

I can’t imagine hearing this shit at Camp Flog Gnaw. I’m so used to hearing all the Flower Boy performances. This a e s t h e t i c is going to so lucid and dreamy

Coming fro someone who's never truly adored a Tyler LP before, this is beyond phenomenal. This surpassed all expectations and I am not only pleasantly surprised but also absolutely mind blown by how amazing this was. The LUSH LUSH LUSH instrumentation mixed with the AMAZING vocal contributions from everyone involved. This absolutely deserves NOTHING but praise. Not a single less than stellar moment on this whole record

After listening to all of Tyler’s previous albums, I’ve felt myself relating to him in a lot of ways. I really enjoy how personal his music feels to me. He is really unfiltered, and in a lot of ways, I have found myself looking up to him. I can understand why he has gained such a passionate fan base. I was looking at this album at face value when I first heard it, and I blame myself for that

This album is just really cool. I like how vintage it sounds throughout. Tyler’s ... read more

So, I was very hyped for this album and I still am so my score might go down in the future but holy moly... It's very different from Flower Boy. Flower Boy had a concept but most of the songs would be fine as singles. Igor, on the other side, is a much more conceptual album that talks about Tyler's feeling, mostly around this one person who makes his "earth quake" and "controls" him. There's some stages to this emotion, it's like a roller-coaster. At first, Tyler is starting ... read more

I was so excited for this album. Everyone was excited and for good reason. Tyler, the Creator has proven time and time again that he's one that'll evolve his sound across the time he's been a rapper and he hasn't been around for that long. After all, he claimed to be inspired by Eminem's 2009 album, Relapse, just to put into perspective for how long he's been rapping for. What he's done is truly impressive, solidifying himself as an iconic figure in a multitude of hip hop styles.

Now, has ... read more

Igor is a very concept-heavy album, which requires most song to be listened to in the context of the album to be the most enjoyable. I do like Tyler's laid-back yet pompous lo-fi sound, but the breach into the indie/post-demarco aesthetic comes off as rather cheap and cheesy at times.

No doubt, "IGOR" by Tyler, The Creator is a future classic. Between saturated synthetic bass, explosive percussions and elusive melodic lines, the whimsical rapper renews hip-hop production. Sheltered behind his alter ego, he is completely devoted on this introspective album. At the time of the formatted projects planned to besiege the streaming services, Tyler, The Creator proposes with "IGOR" a total and perfect immersion in its hybrid, subversive and unstructured music. ... read more

So... this album took a while to really piece together. Halfway through this thing I was thinking "The concept on this thing's completely lost with me. There's nothing here." But the character of the album itself... the sound of this whole thing and every little sound that was added is what really clicked with me. The soundscapes are incredible. "IGOR" is a very conceptual album as it follows a person, akin to Tyler, falling in love for someone until that love deteriorates and eventually he just wants to be friends with this person. It's a very interesting, beautifully-executed concept that fits the production style very well. Speaking of which, the production is the main highlight here, with gorgeous lo-fi aesthetics, great sampling and top-notch mixing. The guest features are also a very big mention. Even though Tyler said to not expect any type of album, I was very surprised with the sonically driven production on here. Although it's production and overall tone its great, what I really love is the concisely implemented concept. This aspect is a bit cringe-worthy to a lot of people, but for me, it's the most enjoyable. I go into way more detail in my video review, so I hope you check that out ... read more

I was a massive Tyler, The Creator fan since the Bastard days.
I got to see Odd Future about a week before Earl returned from Samoa.
I try my hardest to keep up with what Tyler is doing, despite not being as obsessed with him as I once was.
As he continues to grow and flourish as an artist I feel like he furthers himself from what he was in his years of initial development.

As commendable as it is that Tyler is clearly in the stage of his career where he is putting out music that above all ... read more

Ok so this album on first listen didn't really impress me. But after some listens to it this album is fantastic for Tyler.

It takes some influence from his past albums and mixes It in a unique way. This has to be tyler's most unique album even tho it feels like some of his older albums it feels like a fresh new sound for Tyler that I hope he keeps working on in thr future.

EDIT: on second thought... maybe the features aren't that bad at all... they kind leave you feeling like everything feels unresolved, a desire for more, or that things could have gone better (LIKE A REAL ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP, WHICH IS PROBABLY NOT INTENTIONAL, BUT THAT'S JUST HOW I FEEL).

I think this album was too smart for its own good. At first I thought Tyler had leaned way too far toward the experimental spectrum, maybe I wasn't comfortable with the sound.

Maybe I couldn't ... read more

Flowerboy, despite all of its deserved acclaim, was the stepping stone to IGOR. I believe Tyler was testing out a lot of different stylistic choices and ways to establish a tone that was both "Tyler, the Creator" and vulnerable. Flowerboy presented a new vulnerable side of Tyler, but I think that was still relatively surface level compared to what we're shown here. Tyler opens up here about a very specific relationship, one that he values deeply but is always followed by this ... read more

Edit: This is definitely a step down from his last album, despite the production on here being enjoyable and at times beautiful. The song/writing is way below average, being surface level not exploring all sides of tyler's emotions.

Ayo,

“IGOR” has just come out and I’ve only gone over it several times, so this might not be my final view come the end of the year. However I would like to say, that I am pretty astonished just how intoxicating this album is. So far it feels like one big ass groove, designed to be played at max volume in a sunflower field somewhere, much like the predecessor “Flower Boy”...

The record focuses on Tyler’s ability to arrange and present the most colourful and ... read more

I'm into it, but I can't waaait to hear all my fellow white indie kids call this the irrefutable aoty for the next six months...

Anyways, IGOR is a beautiful if confusing project for Tyler. Following up the stunning left turn that was Flower Boy was never going to be easy. That album felt like a defining moment for Tyler as an artist, one that was so well-realized that I wasn't exactly sure where he could go from there aside from repeating it or just switching it up entirely. With IGOR finally out for the masses for them Tyler enthusiasts or the Flower Boy flock alike: It undoubtedly proves the fact Cherry Bomb was an essential stepping stone for Tyler's blossoming craft.

He wasn't as keen with rap as he used to & wanted to ambitiously pursue attainable heights with his aptitude for production. What we received was a bludgeoning cacophony of melody & noise that lacked any real direction, it however retained a charm and merely foreshadowed his pursuit for ... read more

I was frustrated when this album came out, because so many people were loving this thing and I just couldn't seem to like it. I listened numerous times and while I really liked the mix of genres on this record it just wasn't really landing for me.

EDIT: It got better the second time around wow

I usually shit on experimental albums, but man. This album was orgasmic. Tyler explores so many different styles and sounds with this album, that sometimes I kept thinking I was listening to a different album with each song. Some of these transitions are clean as fuck. And WHAT'S GOOD is the hardest song of the year. Don't @ me.

Best: Igor's Theme, Earfquake, A Boy is a Gun, Puppet, What's Good

I was really conflicted with this album like a lot of other listeners who heavily anticipated Tyler's next studio album...kinda sad that it rather tended to grow off me with multiple listens, but at least I got a vague reason on why this project doesn't stick with me...

I feel like this album isn't nearly as bold in aesthetic and as rich in meaning/concept as it pretends to be...ofc there are really cool compositions combining (no, we don't go the alliteration route) the smooth, beautiful ... read more

Perhaps the most curious album from Tyler yet. For a guy who has made a career out of being a curious artist, this is by no means a negative.

What makes this so curious is that Tyler has always really been at the forefront of each of his projects, and on IGOR Tyler seems to be more of a distant figure; always present in the music but never so featured that he takes center stage. Instead the creative mind of Tyler instead of his personality becomes the true main character of this piece of art. ... read more

edit: Fantano gave this a 9. Cool.

Welp. I listened to it, and not gonna lie, I'm a little disappointed. I've known about Tyler's music for a while, I know his experimentation tactics that he likes to do in his tracks (which is impressive, even for self-producing this album) but the plans he took in this album felt too bland for me. The synths sometimes fell in the background which hardly supported the vocals that needed to come in. Conceptually, I got nothing from this; you probably have to ... read more

Tyler, The Creator at this point is no stranger to experimentation, whether for good or for bad. Igor continues his character development with an album that is a somewhat campy reimagining of a late 70s soul record through the lens of modern hip hop and pop. First things first, the production on this album is amazing and so much more fulfilling that is has been on previous Tyler projects. “Igor’s Theme” starts off the album with a monstrous synth bass followed by a strange ... read more
