On stage they bring any house down, during freestyle sessions they are likely lights out but when it came to putting a project together there simply isn’t enough Big Apple to go around.

Despite their intentions, the album still often feels like wandering into a pointless cypher.

Under The Radar

There is too much talent in Beast Coast for Escape from New York to be outright bad but ultimately it is a symptom of the city's lost relevance rather than a cure.

Thought it would be mediocre; turned out to be worse...

The title of the album is perfect; they literally escape from New York stylistically and leave most of their actual qualities behind...

We got generic, trendy production and aesthetics which appeal way more to the Flatbush Zombies than the other members...a lot of the album actually plays around the FBZ-aesthetic and their gimmicks, which represses the personality of Joey, Underachievers and Pro Era-members to the point where they're ... read more

Many talented artists together ≠ great music

But while I agree that Escape From New York is not interesting and not anywhere near what they could have done, is it really terrible? To me, it’s just painfully boring and pointless. The production is pretty generic (even if it is decent most of the time), and nobody really stands out. It just blends into the background. The second half is also extremely boring and makes this album a tough listen all the way through. With that being said, ... read more
I like almost every artist in the group individually, but this is a slog of an album.
Maybe some don't see it as bad as I do, but this is so generic and pointless it's the album Khalid would make if he was a rapper. I almost fell asleep listening to this. Hope Joey and Flatbush have better stuff coming up their solo discographies.

Escape From New York is better than most people here are giving it credit for. I get why people dislike it, but PERSONALLY, this delivers just what I wanted from this album. I know this sounds superficial and stupid, but honestly...I just wanted more Flatbush Zombies material. I know, I know, this is more than just a Flatbush Zombies LP, but...well, I don't have an excuse. I just think the group brought their A-game on this one. And while some people seem to think the rest of the bunch ... read more
