Another covers album, but this one rides heavily on a gimmick that's interesting to begin with, that being that it was recorded in a 1947 Voice-o-Graph, giving it a vintage feel.

A Letter Home is interesting in its sound, but that's about it. While the covers here aren't bad in the slightest, they aren't great either. What a pretty, sad, quaint LP from Neil Young. Recorded in Jack White's 1940s recording booth, the album reads as a letter of love to his childhood, his inspirations and in particular his late mother. Heartfelt and poignant, the stylistic choices enhance the atmosphere of wistful nostalgia.

Hooray! A cover's album!!! Surely he'll put a cool twist on some of these songs. Nope. Add to that, A Letter Home sounds like shit, though that's understandable because these are likely demos. You can tell barely anything was done to enhance how this album sounds, and it shows. The very first track is good!
