Marrow of the Spirit merely reflects a mature Agalloch, taking stock of a decade's worth of peerlessly pioneering extreme metal, before forging ahead into further worlds unknown.
Marrow of the Spirit is an easy choice as the best metal album of the year, and is every bit as accomplished as the past three full-lengths, if not more.
More than simple entertainment, the album is at once stunning and thought-provoking, which is more than many bands can say for their entire catalog.
This is another triumph for the band's discography, but it really shouldn't be a surprise considering how consistent they've been thus far.
Marrow Of The Spirit seems like a failed retreat for Agalloch; an introverted back-tracking to an older sound that they have long since transcended
Pretty nice riffs and desolate atmosphere, lots of calm folky moments and black metal "explosions"
(Listening to all of the Fantano's top 10 albums of the year): 2010 - number 4
Great melodies, not too distracting growling, awesome musicianship, and all around amazing album. At the beginning it started with raining and this calm instrumentation and at the end it brought back the same melody, just in this epic atmosphere that the album built throughout itself.
If you like metal, check it out.
