I usually really like when albums exhibit that 80s charm. But for Rush? Nah... “Hold Your Fire” has not aged well, at all.

If you asked me about this album about a year ago, I would probably say it's my least favorite Rush album. But since then I've decided to give the album a chance again and I found a few songs that I actually like a lot. Still not the best though.

This is the last true synth-heavy album from Rush- and it’s derivative, empty, open, and boring.

At the very least, this album is unique in Rush’s discography. There is nothing else this air-y and spacious. Guitars are rare and synths dominate the atmosphere. There are also some genuinely great songs here, but they’re few and far between. The production is also excellent too.
