I mean i understand this entire album is supposed to go along with a short film Yoni Wolf has made but on it own this album is the weakest WHY? album yet

Can you even call this a album and more of a compliation or a playlist
The album is out it just that the entire album was slowly being cut into 2 to 4 tracks being released as an EP
Basically what Denzel did the same with TA1300

Kind of a shame but yet again what can you do
I didnt listen to the EPs untill the album was released that seen ... read more

A visual album that doesn't really work on its own. I have always admired Yoni Wolf for the bluntness of his personal lyrics, but he has a pretty inconsistent discography. Unfortunately, much of these feel like song fragments or field recordings. Only a handful feel like fully fleshed-out ideas. I'm sure there's a purpose behind every thing he does here, but it just isn't engaging enough to make me want to crack the code.

So I’m sure this coupled with the short film is probably a masterpiece or whatever

But by itself this album is stinky poopoo yucky caca

This record never fully gets going because whenever a track starts to get interesting, yoni is just like, “well that’s enough of that” and it segues into another song that starts and ends the same

It all just sounds so half baked and unfinished and smells of sidewalk cottage cheese

I haven't loved a Why? album since 2008.

There are too many beautiful moments on this record to be called a dud, and it does an amazing job at creating atmosphere. However, too many songs are cut off before they can become interesting, with the 2+ minute tracks by far being the most interesting.

Best track: The Crippled Physician

Yoni Wolf is a creator, an innovator, someone who is always looking at something upside down so he can create from a different perspective. But sometimes he is also a man who's own artistic ambitions get in the way of his actual conceptualized talent. on AOKOHIO, Yoni shows us flashes of brilliance, but before we can digest it or enjoy it for the beauty that it is, it disappear's into a fog of blurry production. The attachment of this music to a video project may work, but I can't help but feel ... read more

Why? does Bee Thousand. AOKOHIO is more of a scrapbook of ideas than a traditional album, and I'm cool with that. The effect makes for a diverse array of sounds that keeps the album compelling throughout.
