Charli XCX: "What's your favorite idea?! Mine is being creative!"
Me: "How do ya get the idea?"
Charli XCX: "I just try to think C R E A T I V E L Y."

So Charli XCX finally came together with another studio album (her first in 5 years), and re-invents her pop sound with the PC music influences she explored with her recent mixtapes and EPs. Needless to say, Charli is a good album! I really enjoyed some of the inventive pop styles on here, I liked Charli's creative ... read more

Wow! What an unexpected effort from Charli XCX.

This album is everything I love about pop music. Such a fantastic effort. It is catchy, instantaneous, incredibly consistent, and creative.

This album travels through a large variety of pop music styles, adding a twist to all of them. Charli XCX, even hiding behind a robotic wall of autotune, is such a powerful voice who carries such powerful emotion through this album. The production is so visceral. I absolutely adored some of the melodies on ... read more

Anyone who listened to Charli XCX's leaked project XCX World can see the ambition she had to create a cohesive album. I think Charli has been largely thought of as a singles artist for the past few years due to various label/leak/other issues, along with many of the singles she has put out (ex. Boys, 1999) being very popular on their own and did not need to be put on a project. But Charli isn't just gonna sit around and drop banger singles all the time, sometimes she's got to put a ton of ... read more

I'm scared that this is TOO good :( Every single has been good as fucking fuck

After Listening:
I have to wake up at 6:40 am, and here I am at 1 a.m. listening to this and writing this review.

If you already don't know, Charli XCX is a British singer/songwriter that has co-written hits such as Señorita by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello. She is one of my favorites artists of this generation, her imagination is so grand, I could die in it. It starts with one of my least favorite ... read more

Dear Charli,

It is with deep respect for all your work that I take the liberty of writing this review.
If I had to qualify this album, the first word would be the album of maturity.
You've chosen to be the emblem of this whole generation of fresh pop that's bursting with raw talent. And you fight to highlight them by offering them a visibility thanks to all the feats present on your album.
On a more technical level, this album pushes back the perfection we expect from the production. There is ... read more

"Ask NOT what you can do for your features. Ask what your features can DO for YOU."

-Me, sobering up after a self absorbed Charli high.

I haven't listened to any singles before this release, so I didn't know what to actually expect, but I definitely didn't expect to like this record so much. The production on this album is truly amazing and Charli complements it really well with her catchy hooks and overall performance. Also there are some really accurate features on here, for example Tommy Cash absoulutely nailed his part. But despite this project's really high points, I still think it has its flaws. I feel like it has some ... read more

This is a straight-up futuristic pop BANGER! "Charli" switches back and forth from tweird to accessible to weirdly accessible. The production is outstanding here, blending the pop sounds of today with PC Music-esque bubblegum bass beats and switch-ups that will punch you in the face... tenderly. The real criticism I have with this album is that the features can outweigh Charli's solo material, Lizzo's verse on "Blame It On Your Love" feels out of place and that track as a ... read more

"Charli" is a really fun and experimental pop album that expands her new PC Music sound to a more mainstream appeal for her 3rd full-length album, and the result is pretty good most of the time. A lot of the hooks get stuck in your head easily and are extremely fun, and the production is really catchy and has a great fusion of electronic elements. However, it does have a bit of filler here and there and most of the features on this album didn't even contribute all that much aside from ... read more

Charli is a mess. There are significant heights ('Gone,' 'Warm,' and '1999,') and significant lows (I have tried so hard with 'Cross You Out,' and I really hate it.) There are moments when Charli seems to be grasping for radio-ready bangers ('Blame It On Your Love,') and moments of pure pop creativity ('2099.') Everyone and the kitchen sink are featured, but the album truly shines when Charli is singing alone. Like the artist who produced it, Charli is wonderfully inventive, sometimes ... read more

Sorry Charli, but you didn't get to Sarah's level. You never will, actually.
This album's decent btw, but won't stick for more than 4 months for me.
UPDATE: The 180° this did on me is unimaginable. Yesterday I was on the verge of forgetting this album. I was like: I like Warm, why not go back to the album, catch some of my fav tunes from it? And poof! The whole mf clicked. The futuristic ambition she has in mind has struck me from the first listen, but i thought some misses lowered my ... read more

WE STAN HER UGH HER MIND TAKE MY WIG QUEEEEEEEEEEN YAAAAAS I CANT BELIEVE CHARLI CREATED POP

Charli's pop journey gets another chapter. Her self titled album is a mix between the contemporary pop and the future pop (pc music/bubblegum bass) she was making since her “Vroom Vroom” Days. sometimes the common ideas are really disappointing like the single 'Blame it On Your Love' or the afrobeats inspired 'Warm' but when she tries experimental pop like the Gorgeous 'Shake It', the ... read more

Well this came out of fucking nowhere. Charli XCX just released one of the best pop albums of 2019.

I only knew her from that one really annoying song she had back like 5 years ago or something (although it feels like yesterday). I never would’ve thought that this artist, regardless of the radio-friendly sound, would even begin to experiment as much as what appears on this record.

There’s obviously those pop undertones throughout, but the sweetest moments come at the most ... read more

@oh told me to listen to this first so I did. Review time

This was, interesting? I didn't expect to like this as much as I did honestly. I've never been a huge Charli stan, but I would be lying if I said I didn't really enjoy some songs off of here, but this album still has some, huge flaws. Starting with Next Level Charli, it sets the theme for the sound and theme of this album, hence the name. This song sounds very futuristic (I won't lie that it definitely does sound like a lot of modern ... read more

edit: grew on me a little bit

Before getting into this album, I decided to listen to her Vroom Vroom EP. Some of the songs were just generic pop songs, nothing too special about them. But the first track (Vroom Vroom) was really good. So I was somewhat excited to hear this album. There's a lot of features on this album and, they don't really add much to the songs. A lot of people like Gone but, the feature kind of ruined that song for me. The features with Troye Sivan I do enjoy and, 1999 and ... read more

i've been looking forward to this album for fuckin months man. almost all of the singles have been great, and i love charli's previous work like Vroom Vroom and Pop 2, so would Charli live up to my expectations?

yeah, yeah this album fucks. it's pretty damn good. at least, most of the time.

the sound of Charli is somewhat of a departure from the more PC bubblegum-bass sounds of her previous works, but it still maintains the weird and experimental edge that makes Charli's music so interesting ... read more

Well, that was... fun. Yep, fun. Not amazing, and not even close to being Charli's best work, let alone a masterpiece of any kind. Just fun.

Charli is an album that definitely had a lot to live up to. Not only was this such a highly praised album when it dropped last year, but most of her previous works that I've heard impressed me way more than I initially thought they would. So, if albums like Pop 2 and Vroom Vroom can leave such a lasting impression on me, then surely Charli is going to as ... read more

Great album from Charli. She continuously elevates her sound and tries new things which works especially well on her 3rd album. Love the mix of heartfelt writing, straight up bangers (I SHAKE IT x ?) and crazy production. Collaboration is one of her greatest strength and it shows on this.

I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT I SHAKE IT!

Some of the tracks are fillers but if we exclude 3 or 4 songs we get epxerimental Charli at her finest.

POWERHOUSE!

Charli deadass went to the future and came back with some sauce.

The distortion on "Click" was so good it made me clench my asshole, I really enjoyed this experience.

*sigh* I'm honestly starting to believe I'm too "old" for this bubblegum bass thing. Charli never impressed me in any ways, but MAN, this album is way, WAY less than I had expected. Not that I have anything against electropop, or robotic voices in general, but this really dragged out the album for me. Most tracks sound like random records between close friends, similar to a "Glee" reunion that was uploaded to Spotify, you know.

Boobies.

I'm surprised with this record. From what I heard of this album, I expected a lifeless, autotune-filled snooze fest. However, it is quite the opposite. Yes, the album does use several standard pop formulas but through creative experimentation, Charli brilliantly avoids being a drab project.

I'm not very familiar with Charli XCX's discography so I don't have much to compare this album to. Instead of comparing this album to anything else, I'm going to just rate it based on enjoyment ... read more
