Tiny Mix Tapes

This is one of the albums of the year: completely out of left field and completely solid from start to finish.

The fact that all this noise comes from three guys is pretty phenomenal. Some of the songs are so chaotic that they sound like the wheels are about to fall off at any second, and the beauty is how close the band decides to tow that line.

Suffice to say, Menomena are a hugely creative band, and with I Am the Fun Blame Monster, they've managed to make an album that's extremely accessible yet entirely unconventional.

Menomena clearly thinks of itself as a clever bunch of musicians. Maybe next time around they'll be more interested in sharing their wit with their listeners rather than just alluding to it.

This group is truly infallible; creating something genuinely creative and catchy at the same time, with consistently enjoyable music all around being produced through the collective.

Don't know how some artists start off at their peak and never reach it again but this is definitely an example. The M. Night Shyamalan of Experimental Rock. But that doesn't mean the other albums are abysmal. I'm just saying this one is by far the best. Probably the best rock album of the year and possibly one of the best rock albums of the 00's
