With No Coast Braid has changed, but it’s retained the identity it established all those years ago, making for a return that’s not only welcome, but one that’s wholly necessary.

Paste

Braid is still a guitar-forward post-punk powerhouse, and No Coast is a great addition to its catalog, even possibly containing some of the best material the band has ever written.

The Line of Best Fit

While No Coast is more resurrection than reinvention, hearing new Braid now after 15 years without drums up the realization that nothing has sounded quite like it since.

77
Pitchfork

No Coast is an inspired record for a very tangible reason that goes beyond associating with an in-demand producer (Will Yip) and a hip new label: Braid have taken stock of their own lives as unintentional elder statesmen and treat it as worthwhile subject matter.

70
AllMusic

Instead of turning in an attempt to reopen a closed chapter, Braid continue their story here, branching out in new directions and leaving room to wonder what comes next.

70
SPIN

No Coast is the work of a proud scene divorcée declaring his allegiance to nothing but verse and chorus.

67
Consequence of Sound

On No Coast, Braid let themselves grow independently of trends of music, and that will be their saving grace, even if it does mean they’ve sanded down and hidden the rough spots that distinguish us all as humans.

Exclaim!

Though strong in sound and true to their style and form, new album No Coast falls flat on the ears of long time fans.

16 years later and they sound exactly as emo-ish as they did!

a pretty good emo album icl but it doesn't standout that much and some of the tracks are pretty weak although lux and climber new entry are pretty solid icl. It just doesn't standout that much tbh and thats really about it

★Album 43/100★

Lyrics are the greatest weakness here for sure. Some lines feel present just for the sake of making a rhyme happen. Every once in a while isn't so much of an issue, but it's like…every track. At least one instance. Even Put Wings on That Kid, one of the better tracks here, has its fair share of examples. The rest of it just isn't that special, really. I have so little to say about the rest.
