The Line of Best Fit

The Leicester-born R&B singer has tapped into something unexpected and exhilarating.

Loud and Quiet

As confident a debut as you’re likely to hear, Love & Compromise reveals Mahalia as an honest, perceptive songwriter.

At the end of this journey, we’re left not only with a playlist you’re itching to put on repeat, but also with the a much-needed notion of an inspirational woman made much stronger- much more in love with herself- by the trials and tribulations of her life.

Never compromising herself or her sound, Mahalia has produced a debut album filled with dazzling songs.

The Observer

Despite the emotional content here, Mahalia exudes a breezy mellowness, with thoroughly 2019 themes rubbing up against retro stylings.

Fascinating! Is this a debut? Because it seems more like an album of an expert who has been making music for ages.
Mahalia gives us all that artists like Tinashe are aiming to.
The album surely depends upon its production, which brings nostalgia and good feelings. It is a mix of modern and powered old R&B.
In conclusion, I don't know how to explain it... an incredible record.
Love and Compromise just feels like the debut albums from big artists like Alicia Keys and Chris Brown. They're great from the start: contain just enough songs, a good variety of different songs, great production and storytelling throughout the songs. Maybe I'm a little biased here, because I've seen her perform and I was really impressed. She sounded great, was very funny and told the stories that inspired or explained the songs she wrote.

My favorite songs are Simmer, He's Mine and What You ... read more
This album is great! she has a lot of talent (amazing flow and great lyrics). The thing is really consistent and also really diverse in a good way: from that new alternative r&b, oldschool r&b to like a really interesting mix of indie pop and r&b. My only problem is the weak features.
Favorites: I Wish I Missed My Ex, Do Not Disturb, Karma, What You Did, Hide Out and Square 1.
Mahalia is a class act, and this album does not disappoint. She's never really made a bad song and this album continues the pattern. It's so nice to hear a full body of work from her because her world is so fun to be in. It's the mix of R&B with the witty, singer-songwriter lyrics that really make the album feel complete.

Favorite tracks: "Simmer", "What You Did", "What Am I?"
Highly fun and entertaining debut album from Mahalia, where she effortlessly mixes r&b and pop in order to create a warm and catchy collection of songs.
