This isn’t my first Cohen album don’t worry but, this was the one I wanted to talk about. I see very divided opinions on this album all over the place. Debauched, horny, lush, romantic, weird. Death of a Ladies Man is all these things. That weird twitchy nervy energy from Diamond in the Mines (off of Songs of Love and Hate) extended thru a whole album and backed by some stellar production. A deeply weird directional pivot that wasn't appreciated on release, now we find Cohen at his most, sonically, playful. Thank god for it. No track misses.
Perhaps not the classic deserves to be heralded as, but a classic in my book.
