Just as Brandon Banks is a compelling self-portrait of Maxo Kream, it’s also an unflinching portrait of his father and familial duties (and trauma) as well.
Sordid family history has long been the source of Maxo’s most resonant storytelling, and on Brandon Banks it becomes a superpower.
Without question, Brandon Banks is among the best and biggest-hearted rap albums of the summer.
All that thematic ambition, along with the minimalist yet catchy instrumentals and Kream's unfussy, but deceptively thoughtful lyrics, make Brandon Banks the breakout debut of the summer.
His superb major label debut Brandon Banks is sprawling autobiography overflowing with dense, unflinching, granular detail sourced from his 15-odd years of toting guns, staging robberies, and selling drugs in Southwest Houston.
Mans is so average. Why y'all acting like he the second coming of scarface?

GREAT features from Megan Thee Stallion and ScHoolboy Q, great tracks like Bissonnet, Drizzy Draco, Spice Ln., and Brenda, as well as the constant need to rap consistently and rap responsibly. Okay this one I don't understand. I thought this was some of the most average trap music I've ever heard yet it's being praised like its the best stuff ever & I do not agree with that. It's a decent album but we already know Maxo can do better.
Probably the most overlooked album of 2019 within the realm of hip-hop. Maxo does his best to make his monolithic style work in different sonic passages while telling the tales of his life and his father's. Honestly amazing shit.
