The fourth studio album from Greta Kline (aka Frankie Cosmos) adheres to her previous sound yet shows an apparent growth and evolution as it progresses into the 21-song tracklist that keeps listeners on their toes. It features various highs and lows with effortlessly urgent sentiment and introspection only she could transpose from paper into songs. She will always succeed in making a minute track so punchy yet emotive that never stales in a long run. Meticulously composed yet briskly paced, her ... read more

Too much similar tracks, basic indie rock songs, too short/too many tracks. Frankie cosmos is becoming particulary uninterested and predictible. She needs to take more time and another direction.

It has been a while since I heard an indie album that is trying too hard to be uninteresting, and would rather see itself be relegated to the backdrop of a coffee shop. This album is offensive in the sense that it is so incredibly inoffensive. Out of the 20-or-something songs on this album, Frankie Cosmos make sure to write only two or three interesting ones. This album has the personality of a pumpkin spice latte.

Seriously, I am getting angry writing this review. Who thought making this ... read more

It's got a pleasant vibe, but the newest Frankie Cosmos album is fairly lacking in substance. These 20 short songs only add up to roughly 40 minutes of material, and after the first few cuts it's clear that this simple instrumentation and wispy vocal combination will sustain throughout the project, and it just gets tedious to listen through and pick out individual stand-out tracks. Nice aesthetic, but it's drawn out for far too long without any noticeable progression.

I see people are especially pissed that the newest Frankie Cosmos album sounds like a Frankie Cosmos album. “Close It Quietly” should not come as a surprise to any fans of Greta Kline’s work — she’s doing what she always does, and pretty well at that. Kline is an uncommonly prolific and affecting indie pop auteur, and her charm and wit are always preserved despite (or because of?) her constant tempo changes and unwillingness to complete her songs. That said, there ... read more

Another directionless indie splurge by Frankie Cosmos. Rather an improvement on the indie splurge she released last year though. A little more pillowy and smoother on the ears. Many seem to believe she'd benefit from dropping the old Guided by Voices album format now but I actually think that format kind of suits her sound. It's just a lack of willingness to experiment and interesting songwriting that puts me off.

Where's the evolution? I'm returning to the same song and dance and without much direction.

Frankie Cosmos’ fourth album,Close It Quietly, attempts to showcase her development and maturation as an artist while also highlighting Frankie’s youthful innocence in a world which she seemingly feels small in. This album however falters in an attempt to showcase any variety or divergence as most of the 21 tracks sound very similar to each other. If a trendy hipster cafe in Brooklyn had a soundtrack, it would definitely be Close It Quietly. Stand out tracks such as Wannago, Cosmic ... read more
