You know what? The hold steady can still write some pretty catchy little rock songs.

In fact this genre is so out of fashion at this point that they've kind of come full circle to being a real hipster act.

Their best in over a decade. The return of Franz on keys must be a contributing factor. Their music inexplicably declined when he left the band almost as bad as it did for Weezer losing Matt Sharp. Cuts like Denver Haircut and Entitlement Crew will fit right in the upper echelon of their tracks. I just love all of the Easter eggs and past references there are of their best albums to find for longtime listeners.

I'm sorry but there's no thrashing, just...compromising!
Concerning the passion, if it exists, it's completely hidden behind a middle-age crisis.

The Hold Steady have transitioned from indie rockers to dad rock so seamlessly, it is almost impressive.
