He does the incredible work of turning his loss into this beautiful, woozy mixtape of grief and ecstasy.

Taken as a whole ... tears of joy is an immersive and painfully beautiful listening experience with MIKE's vulnerability the main force moving the songs.

The Bronx rapper drags himself back and forth between agony and breakthrough on his latest record, the fullest and most realized album of the 20-year-old’s career.

Tears of Joy is just pure bildungsroman; it’s more vulnerable, contemplative, and personal.

I was extremely touched by this album. As someone born to older parents. I as a 22-year-old watching my parents deteriorate in health is just such a morose thing to me. I can only imagine the pain MIKE must be feeling as he just recently lost his mother. Props to young MIKE, you are officially one of my favorite artists now.
MIKE, the best rapper for chill and my favorite rapper of the abstract hip-hop scene is back. I greatly admire the work of MIKE; his largely self-produced style is dense, soulful and solemn. Yup, this new SRS-type abstract hip hop is one of the best new styles that rappers started using. Mike killed this album and shows that he is capable of rapping over anything. Reminds me a lot of The Caretaker mixed with Earl Sweatshirt.
Not even a year of stanning and abusing that Earl album, and here I am finding a better abstract hip hop album.
MIKE raps on some of the most blissful production of this year, no, actually, of this decade. The emotion displayed on these tracks is also terrific. My Favourite Hip Hop album of the year so far. (Bandana's coming this week so this might change very soon idk)
EDIT : Sorry Mike, Madlib happened. You're second as of now.
