On this uneven but fun sophomore album, Kate Nash works best when she embraces her inner piano pop girl, injecting sass and personality into the vocals and lyrics rather than the arrangements, as in “Paris” and “Do-Wah-Doo.” But Nash is trying to do a lot more, throwing a bunch of styles and themes onto the wall to see what sticks. Some experiments, like “Take Me To a Higher Plane,” pay off, but the punk moves are a bit tiresome and go on for far too long.
