I didn't expect to enjoy this album as much as I did, as it is an album in which a lot of creative voices could easily clash with their different ideas of how the album should sound like, but that didn't happen. I loved almost every track on the album, but JID really did outshine the rest of the Dreamville squad and JID had me wondering after every verse when he would come again. Nevertheless, the rest of Dreamville still did really good, an example of excellent work is the verse of Johnny ... read more

You all know how I feel about J Cole. This project is mostly fire and Mr. Cole is (partially) the creator of it. My opinion is evolving and so is his sound. The song with Ski Mask and Smokepurpp is wild.

On an intitial listen, this has a lot of the same issues as Top Dawg Entertainment's soundtrack for Black Panther last year — the talent disparity between the best members of Dreamville and the lesser members is so strong that whenever one of them comes on a track, I feel like I really only want to wait until one of the major figures like Cole, J.I.D, Doctur Dot, Johnny Venus, or Bas is on the track.

With that being said, the verses from outside artists are all very good; DaBaby ... read more

J. Cole and his label Dreamville have understood what hip-hop is. The compilation "Revenge of The Dreamers III" is the proof. The result is an ambitious project for which over a hundred artists (MC's and producers) gathered for ten days last January at Tree Sound Studios in Georgia. The expectation was great and unsurprisingly, "ROTD III" is already announced as one of the major hip-hop albums of 2019. A total of 142 songs were recorded during the studio sessions, and 18 of ... read more

J. Cole and his labelmates have put together a decent compilation. A lot of the verses are good, some of the songs are pretty great ("Wells Fargo" is an amazing change of pace from the rest of the comp) and some of the guest features, ESPECIALLY Kendrick Lamar, are fantastic. Unfortunately, there are some pretty half-baked cuts on here and some of the beats get samey after a while, which makes listening to "Revenge Of The Dreamers III" a bit exhausting.

Dreamville is an interesting group. While none of the artists on the label are by any means bad, there is definitely a solid gap between the between their skills, so a compilation album makes for a somewhat erratic listen.

Like most works by Dreamville artists, the productions on ROTD3 are mostly modest and low energy, with a few charged-up tracks. This works well in Dreamville's case, as the label tries to prioritizes lyrical substance above anything else. The downside to this, is that not ... read more

This album is for "Hip-Hop News" accounts on Twitter that post about the nonexistent Cole and Kendrick collab album that features The bitch that sucked Biggie's dick on record, xxxtentacion's casket, and pictures of Michael Jackson's white ballsack. This album is the musical equivalent of everyone from Dreamville and the NON LABEL features blowing a metaphorical smoke screen up J Cole's ass. Everyone barely tries on this. J.I.D's existence is nice. DaBaby has enough charisma to save ... read more

Can't really rate this for a concept because this is just a bunch of singles packed into an album. With that being said these tracks are super solid. The surprise Kendrick Lamar hook on Under The Sun was super unexpected. I'm fucking with JID a ton on this album and he might have the best overall performance on this album. Some of my favourite performances go to Ski Mask, Buddy and Reason.
I wish we could have got another REASON feature tbh.

While there is nothing seemingly “bad” about this project; it just shows that even with an immense amount of quirky artists, sometimes too many causes too much diluted and formulaic songs.

Some songs bang, and songs like Got Me and Self Love are sooo pretty to me, I really do think a lot of the hype tracks (excluding Costa Rica and Down Bad) strike that mediocre tone. Which is a shame.

JID is the MVP of this project

Really enjoyable “compilation”

There really aren’t bad tracks on here, just less interesting ones. I fully understand people come here for Cole and JID, so do I and they delivered.
But there are some good tracks that don’t feature these gentlemen: Sleep Deprived and Self Love

This body of work is incredibly fun, diverse and host great amounts of replay value, songs like Down Bad, Costa Rica and Wells Fargo just got stuck in my head real quick.

It's a good album. Most of the album is just straight bars and they do it pretty well. The downside to this is that I feel this some of the hooks being lacking or even downright obnoxious in songs like Costa Rica Or LamboTruck. Funnily enough the best hook on the album belongs to an interlude (Wells Fargo.) The skits on the album are a little hit or miss. In songs like 1993 they invade the song and ruin the enjoyment for me. I'm not into verses being interrupted like the track i already ... read more

- JID is hella nice.
- They got Cole, JID & Vince Staples on one track and fumbled the ball... shame.
- Maybe too much to ask for an album filled with posse cuts, but I wish it was more cohesive and maybe 10 minutes shorter.

I can appreciate what Dreamville is doing here. They made a hip hop record full of rhymes, chill beats and realism in the lyrics. Almost everybody did their thing on this album, especially JID, Lute, and Cole. The Kendrick feature was a pleasant surprise too, even if it lasted like 7 seconds. But this thing drags a little bit (yes I know it's over an hour long) and Vince Staples' feature disappointed me. 😕 Oh, and Buddy's line on Costa Rica, "I put my thumb in her ass." No. Stop ... read more

First Impressions

J.I.D is an absolute stand out star and kills almost every song he's in easily. J Cole does pretty well in Under the Sun and Down Bad but still doesn't hit anything exceptional. It's not disappointing but there's so much filler to get through that it really puts the album down in quality and the multitude of talent meshing together doesn't always make the album super great.

There are definitely notable moments on this album (JID kills it on Costa Rica and Kendricks feature ... read more

Inconsistent, with a lot of forgetful artists on the Dreamville line up. A lot of the bangers are really solid, though not as much of the slower cuts live up to them. Cole and JID are both getting better at rapping. EARTHGANG is hyping me up for Mirrorland. Cozz is okay. I don't know the others' voices.

Favorites: Down Bad, Oh Wow...Swerve, Wells Fargo, Costa Rica, Sunset, MIDDLE CHILD, PTSD, Sacrifices

Worst: Sleep Deprived

Came for Bas, he was only on one, so I only stayed for JID. Cole still blows, this label is kiddie rap.

Much better than I expected! It's actually cohesive, despite the number of people behind this. The foundation of this comp is just tried & true trap/r&b songs, nothing game changing, just an hour of better than average music. Worth a listen.

This is a solid album! Dreamville finally capitalizes on this idea of them being one of the biggest rap labels around and while the sometimes annoying reminder throughout that they are coming for Top Dawg, it seems like that actually might be the case. J. Cole really does his job here infusing some trap bangers as well as giving very soulful and dark verses while the supporting cast of JID and Bas do a great job as the second men. EARTHGANG steps up as a whole and as in one of the songs ... read more

For a compilation with so many artists this either proves how willing to adapt Dreamville artists are or how much they all follow the footsteps of J Cole, their ring leader. This actually works in favor of the compilation because it creates a pretty fluid compilation. The wonkier more abstract trap style they employ on most of these songs is admirable, and there are some pretty good verses and moments on here like the infectious Wells Fargo chorus and JID’s verse and chorus on Down Bad. ... read more

'Revenge of the Dreamers III" is an incredibly fun playlist of great tracks, that however lacks any coherence holding it together as an album. It's fun to hear all the Dreamville artists, as well as guests from other labels coming together and having a good time. For many of the smaller artists, "ROTD3" serves as the perfect place to make a name for themselves. I can't wait until more people start discovering the likes of REASON or Maxo Kream.

Didn't enjoy this at all really on first listen but then I gave it another listen late at night as I was going to bed and it was a totally different vibe. Down Bad definitely one of my favourite tracks of the year

A really solid enjoyable listen. There's not much focus but not doesn't lack because of it. Some of these tracks garner some serious chemistry between its long list of features, particularly great performances from J.I.D and EARTHGANG.
Best Track- Wells Fargo, wish it was longer...

How the hell did dreamville, managed to mix those whole lot of featured artists with them into 64 minutes of well-balanced album?

It's good, but has some flaws. Cole, JID, Bas and Earthgang are real stand outs for me. I had lots of fun listening to JID, Bas and Earthgang. And Cole had some thinkers for verses, Middle Child, hands down, is my favourite song of 2019.

This is what i waited for this year. "ROTD3" is the best album for you if you like talent and variaty. We go from chill rap songs to singing and straight up hype songs. Definetly my AOTY for now and i fell like it will grow on me even more. Every artist on this did really good in their verses including both dreamville members and outside artists.
