Y'know it's a slow album week when somehow Jaden Smith's album is the one getting the most attention. Honestly, I really don't have much to say. This felt so pointless! I'd say you should check out...PipePanic, Oreox4, _zeltrxn17, or literally anyone else if you're looking for an on-topic ERYS review.

In the meantime, I'm just gonna talk about my ass (STORYTIME)...

So here in Canada, we've been having like a mini-heatwave situation. Yes, this is indeed a rare phenomenon cause we ... read more

Ambition + total oblivion = Jaden Smith

The kid is trying as hard as possible to be someone/something he isn’t and it makes awkward, uncomfortable music.

Ugh.

Jaden Smith's music has, to me at lest, seemed at lest more interesting then the usual 'best in the game's, with at lest an attempt at making a strong, interesting concept. However...yeah he certainly doesn't seem to get there in terms of delivery. You can dress up a bland, boring and bad rap project all you want, but if the music sucks, then your pretty out of luck. And with a Tracklist time of more then an hour, I was absolutely dreading this one.

Still, Jaden has got some talent ... read more

stumbled home in a drunken haze just in time for friday, uber ride saved me up seven flights of stairs and ERYS cuddled me in bed.
favorite track: Summertime in Paris

PINK is the juxtaposition needed alongside BLUE except the concept is held its every trope of trap absolutely blued into vocal minapulation and Jaden in stunning form, its lost and jagged and broken in every right way, Even “again” sounds well constructed in this world of overexposed beats and just blarred out of ... read more

Tyler the type of dude to rhyme "sarcasm" with "orgasm" and still have a fire verse.

This album surprised me, then disappointed me in the latter half. No one needs 6+ minute tracks of Jaden. I hear the ambition though. At least he's trying something. That's a whole lot more than what I can say about his last mixtape. He seemed to take Plastic, the only tolerable song there, and made more of that here.

Also, All Gold Everything dude on a song? You can tell he loves to take ... read more

I saw the pink tone of the cover art, as well as the PINK 4-song intro, and I couldn't help but think that if Jaden was a Pokémon, he would truly be the Mr. Mime of the rap game lmaoo. That's basically how to sum my review up.

I just listened to the entire thing twice, and let's say I've come to a conclusion. It's that I will legitimately never give a damn fuck about this dude's music ever again.

This shit is ass and i’m too angry rn for having listened to this unbelievably bloated and uneven mess to articulate why it’s shit. It just is, there are 6 minute long songs in which half is taken up by Jaden incomprehensibly auto crooning over a barely present trap instrumental. The fucking basic, generic, mediocre bars are again juxtaposed over incredible production except this time it’s trap influenced and for what? It’s an excuse to not even pretend to try, ... read more

ERYS is a big step in the right direction for Jaden, now I understand he gets a lot of flack for drawing similar sounds from other artists and sometimes they can be uninspired but it seems like Jaden is starting find his sound on this album. The various sounds on this are pretty impressive and ambitious especially the punk rock track “Fire Dept” which honestly surprised me as I would expect something like that from Lil Nas X. The features on this are pretty good as well especially ... read more

I wasn't expecting this album to be good, but it was definitely better than I expected... in a couple of ways. "PINK" is a great opener with some outstanding, creative production (especially the toothbrush sample on "K"). The Tyler and Cudi features were also spot-on and they bring in some much needed charisma to this record. Unfortunately, the flaws that are associated with Jaden's music, and Jaden himself, remain. There are so many corny-as-hell lines on here ("'Til ... read more

Horrendous

Every time I try and listen to a new record, I try to keep an open mind and fully immerse myself in the music itself. This was my introduction to Jaden Smith, so I unfortunately went in excited and intrigued...

Inconsistent, bloated, meandering, insulting, pretentious. These are some words that came to mind when listening to this record. I never found myself enjoyed a lot of material on Jaden Smith's latest effort, for its blatant "unoriginality" and somewhat annoying ... read more

Predicted Rating: 55

Edit: I think this has a connection to not only SYRE, but the Cool Tape Story. My main goal right now is to find that out.

Review: WOW my predicted rating was so wrong. I like this a lot! CTS flopped very much but this is a massive improvement. This was supposed to be bad. What happened? What i think made this album great was the level of creativity he put into it, just like syre. Even though the overall theme is pretty loose, that doesn't mean that the whole thing ... read more

DISAPPOINTING

I want to like Jaden Smith. I want to like Jaden Smith sooo much. Every fake-deep middle schooler in existence loves his music, so why not just accept my fate and learn to like him? But alas, even when I'm intentionally making an ATTEMPT to like his music, something just rubs me the wrong way. Whether it's the generic production or the bad lyrics, there's always gotta be the ONE THING that prevents me from loving a song. While ERYS is definitely the closest I've come to enjoying ... read more

This album brings a lot of very interesting ideas to the table but ultimately falls flat in the context of execution and consistency. Jaden’s creativity is through the roof and I respect him for at least making a sincere effort to bring his ideas into fruition. I think he just needs to pace himself a little more and shoot for quality over quantity. Very rarely is it a good sign for a hip hop album to be over an hour long. It just seldom works and stays interesting.

I still like "SYRE". I'm not the biggest fan of Jaden, but I still think it's a decent debut album with good ideas, although it's not always well done. Now he releases "ERYS" and I'm just disappointed. It is clear that this album is trying to repeat what his predecessor had done: a complex production, inspired by the EDM, a decent flow, themes of lost love, slow moments inspired by R&B, etc. Instrumentals are still, for the most part, cool and fun. But, it's also one of ... read more

Jaden is a genius.

The fact that this album title is SYRE backwards just shows you the level of superiority he is on to these wack rappers nowadays.

The beats are really good and Jaden's flow is fire. I don't like that Tyler The Mumble Rapper is on it though, get rid of him. Apart from that it's the best album of 2019 🔥🔥🔥

Jaden Smith's music is generic and inoffensive. He does nothing to prove this isn't just the album of some rich kid who wanted to make rap music, because that's exactly what he sounds like (as he did on Syre) .
Jaden has been fed off of a silver platter his entire life. His place in the rap scene is unneeded and a fuck you to every single rapper with even the mildest of comeups (from Drake to Macklemore, they did a hell of a lot more than Jaden). Before Syre, nobody aside from a niche ... read more

I've never really got the hype for Jaden until I listened to this album. Whether he's going for bangers or beautiful tracks he usually can pull it off. The production is great all the way through and Jaden shows some pretty good variety in his vocal performances. Some of his singing on tracks like Fire Dept is questionable but I can forgive it just for how good the rest of it is.

Favourites: P, I, K, NOIZE, Again, Mission, Pain, On My Own, Riot

THAT CUDI FEATURE IS INSANITY

Where do I begin? This is such a creative ambitious work of art. Front to back this project just OOZES creativity. The production is so MAXIMALIST and cinematic and I absolutely LOVE it. There are so many moments that the production quite literally left me gasping for breath because of how crazy it was. Of course this sounds like it has a bunch of musical ... read more

PINK being completely underwhelming in comparison to BLUE is not the only crime here, it’s the fact that Jaden fucking Smith thought we wanted over an hour of his shit music.

Take out the features + the production and this...might actually be the worst thing I have ever heard this year. Tyler & Rocky, you gotta stop chillin’ with this dude.

Ill Keep an open mind, I’ll listen in months time and let’s see if some level of integrity seeps out of this.

The PINK song series is actually worth giving a listen to as there are a lot of enjoyable moments on the tracks. For example, the fact that he sampled a electric razor on the track K is actually pretty cool.

Moments like the last minute on NOIZE is what ruins a lot of this album for me, as that just doesn’t sound anywhere near good, I have no clue why he still uses that style as it has run its course and was never that enjoyable in the first place.

Also there are a lot of non-lyrics in ... read more

Jaden's biggest drawback is that he consistently tries to be what he's not.

He tries to be the prophet, the rockstar, the emo singer, the trap hitmaker, etc., but unfortunately, he's none of those things. While the conscious intent and thought-out production is made apparent in his music, it's also made blatantly clear in nearly every one of his songs, that Jaden does not have much innate musical talent.

It's obvious that Jaden is inspired by various sounds and tries to incorporate these ... read more

Having your sister feature on your song is pretty lame.

Jaden has finally picked a sound, that sound being other peoples sounds. I understand why people are upset about this. "It's dishonest and ungenuine." "They didn't have to work for shit" and all that is completely true. It really puts a damper of me being on board the Jaden Train. But, Jaden is the kid of a millionaire. They're always going to be boring. Most sounds developed by artists come from what they've lived ... read more

I was not expecting anything from this album and it turned out to be not that bad, i'ts not something I will comeback to besides the track with Tyler which I really enjoyed. The main problem is still Jaden, not the production but Jaden himself, he's still trying to make his own sound and grown apart from his influences! Besides some awful tracks like "i-drip-or-is" and the "Fire Dept" (oh god this song) the album is decent with the main highlight being the first 5 tracks. I ... read more

So this is that trash TRASH. Like.. avoid at all costs trash.

I seriously wasn’t expecting to dislike this so much.

For me, SYRE was at least somewhat enjoyable. I could just completely ignore what Jaden was actually saying and instead let it play out as background music because his energy and production was pretty good on there.

Other than the three big features, I don’t like anything about ERYS.

I really enjoyed this project. Holy shit Jaden, I though this project would be god awful after listening to 'The Sunset Tapes' and the little 'ERYS IS COMING' EP. But it's quite the contrary, because this project is one of the best this year. I already enjoyed it's predecessor 'SYRE', but this is even better.

If I'm honest, this project is probably one of the most creative rap-albums this year. Because of the maximalized prodcution, this project is very captivating and mesmerizing. My jaw ... read more

Getting warmer Jaden.

After two of the worst pieces of music the popular music landscape has seen in recent memory (I'm talking of course about the Sunset Tapes and the very subtly named ERYS IS COMING), Jaden sees fit to return to an aesthetic he first explored on SYRE, with grandiose and expensive-sounding production mixed with auto-tune and reverb soaked vocals. While literally no one on the planet has yet to give a single, solitary fuck about whatever the hell SYRE purports to be about, I ... read more

Listened to it twice so far and this album delivered on everything Jaden promised us. It's a heavy trap album that also acts as a follow up to the lore of SYRE. The production is dark and menacing but very creative, Jaden literally samples an electric hair razor on the fourth part of opening multi-track cut P.I.N.K. Jaden raps over a punk rock instrumental on Fire Dept and it actually sounds amazing! In fact a lot of the albums trap cuts have a heavy almost rock edge to them with plenty of ... read more

This album tries to repeat what its predecessor ("SYRE") did, with its EDM inspired production, dramatic ambient, more R&B inspired instants, etc.. The instrumentals are still fun and the features add a lot to the experience. But... I'm annoyed at this whole experience. It's more predictable, less personal and much more of an effort to get through. Some songs feel like fillers and they don't stand out ("Got It", "i-drip-or-is" that only show off weak, ... read more

At points, he puts on this dumb voice that makes him think he's hardcore. But he just ends up sounding like the dudes from black midi. There are some okay songs here like Summertime in Paris and Blackout, but I feel like it doesn't suit Jaden's vocals. Whenever Jaden tries to put on autotune on his vocals, the results are hilarious as shit.

Hmmm I kinda liked some parts of PINK and the features kinda helped. Overall this album is mostly filled with horrible trap/pop rap tracks that don't bring me any enjoyment whatsoever. In other words it's trash from my perspective and I would've thrown it in the bin and would've tried to make a good album instead.

Favorite tracks: NOIZE, Chateau, P, I, N & On My Own

Jaden's ERYS is below average. It's better than SYRE, and there's a clear improvement in beat selection as well as compositional approach. The execution, however, is hit-or-miss with an emphasis on "miss." His influences from Kevin Abstract and BROCKHAMPTON to the featured Tyler, the Creator bleed through without much of an offering of originality. It's a nice change of pace for an industry plant to be as artsy and inspired as Jaden, but it would be nicer if that art were memorable ... read more

During the first half this was on the trajectory to being a high 70-low 80, but it gets dragged by the somewhat lacklustre second half; none of the songs are necessarily bad but they just drag on and weighs the whole project down as a result.
Production is fucking spectacular; Jaden himself actually isn't that bad at all (Exceeded my expectations by a lot); features are nice [Excluding Trinidad]

I was NOT excited for this album. I did not like SYRE or The Sunset Tapes at all. So I came into this not looking forward to it like the other 2. But I was very surprised. The transitions and Production is amazing on this. Jaden is definitely at his best on this project. The features are top notch. The Tyler feature is just a moment of awe. Kid Cudi's feature is probably next for me. This album was just a huge surprise and I really didnt expect this.

Jaden Smith releases the sister album to his 2017 album SYRE, and calls it ERYS.

It's pronounced "Iris" by the way, for some reason.

This album is hard to review honestly and accurately. The production throughout this thing is... effective. It's not entirely memorable, but it works, and kind of tricks the mind into thinking it's listening to something good. That has to count for something, right? This album was physically exhausting to listen to. The first song was decent and actually had some pretty beautiful singing from Willow. Then the second song started...

Where do I even start with this thing? A lot of the mixing on this is terrible. The vocal effects and overblown 808's make this sound like a Big Baller B project for a good portion of the album. Despite how this could easily be a meme album, it's trying so hard to be serious.
