If The Lost Boy was the new wave rapper's most substantial test of talent and longevity, YBN Cordae passed with flying colours.

Clash

Both bold and filled with bravado, yet layered and emotional, YBN Cordae is able to convey his desires, hopes, and fears in an ambitious and well-thought out format.

Highsnobiety

This isn’t an album for fans of chaotic trap and moshing, but one that is designed as something for you to sit back and vibe to, and understanding this will be key to how much you enjoy the journey.

Pitchfork

Occasionally corny and self-serious, Cordae's redemption tale shows a promising voice bursting into the mainstream.

The Needle Drop

Even though Cordae wears some of his contemporary influences on his sleeve, The Lost Boy is a solid and promising debut album.

The Lost Boy serves its purpose for being a pretty solid starting point for YBN Cordae, a young upcoming rapper who's destined to drop some great material in the future!

And that's about it...it's a safe, standard debut. It good.

There's no denying that YBN Cordae has a lot of potential and is a great lyricist with many stories to tell. What amazes me is that despite being very new to the hip hop scene, Cordae's musical direction and ambition nearly seems fully fleshed-out and recognized! ... read more

North Carolina native/rapper's debut is an excellent outing for the young rapper exuding youthful exuberance and down-to-earth lyricism that talks about his struggles that would relate to the young and old alike. This young man sounds he is just having fun in front of the mic, spitting rhymes with enough passion and sincerity that shows in his music. With a hefty, ambitious amount of guest collaborations working on his strengths, this is quality rap music that should be relish for years to ... read more

YBN Cordae is a great lyricist but that's about it. His voice is like a whiny Kendrick Lamar without the attitude and it irritates me most of the time. I find his flow awkward. Most of the time the production is very pretty but it gets boring after a few minutes. The key term is "most" or "most of the time" because this album has a lot of problems but every issue has an expectation. Beats that become uninteresting after a minute? FUCK YOU "RNP" exists! Lack of ... read more

Good

Although nothing really stood out to me, nothing really annoyed or insulted me. At most points it is a bit safe, but overall, I did have higher expectations. Don't have much to say about it either, sadly...

YBN Cordae creates the best Chance The Rapper album ever.

It's crazy to see someone at this level of quality so early in his career. I would expect something like this from an artist who hasn't released an album in 5 years and this is the "Big Comeback." But, this is his "first" album. It's just incredible.

Also "RNP" is the best Anderson .Paak has ever sounded.
