Niggas on the Moon finds Death Grips drawing from themselves rather than pushing things forward, a deviation from their mission statement.

Consequence of Sound

niggas on the moon primarily relies on the band’s chaotic, ever-evolving sonic disposition — and as a bonus, we’ve never heard Ride sound quite like this. It’s an exciting proposition.

I truly adore this release from Death Grips, their most underrated in my opinion. This is an intoxicating euphoria of an album. The production here is mind-blowingly brilliant and infectious, with a lot of these tracks revolving around consistent Bjork sampling. They way they execute the production/instrumentation is so diverse and rich with electronic sounds, technical drumming, and vocal instrumenting from Bjork and MC Ride; while still sounding as experimental, genre-bending, and futuristic ... read more
Honestly this might be my favourite thing they've done yet, it's constantly disorienting but never unfocused, and it features some of their most brutally challenging material to date. It leaves my head spinning every time I hear it and the more I listen to it, the less i'm able to pinpoint anything I dislike really.

edit: gave it some thought and yeeeeah fuck it
After listening to the complete The Powers That B double album many many times in the past few months, I decided to split my reviews, as the two halves really have nothing to do with each other, and work better as individual works in my opinion.
What makes Niggas on The Moon my favorite album from death grips is almost purely dependent on the production. It blows my mind that Zach Hill did all of this on v-drums, and his use of Bjork's voice in the instrumentals makes this the group's most ... read more
I think Niggas on the Moon is Death Grips at their most silly, with their interest relying mostly in expanding their production skills. Which, without question, ends up being their most engaging listen production-wise. As for Ride's vocals, I actually really like his more wacky, spontaneous-sounding verses. The whole thing is a blast.

Favorite Tracks: Black Quarterback, Billy Not Really, Big Dipper, Voila
“NOTM” is probably one of the weirdest and most experimental Death Grips projects. The Björk samples are awesome, MC Ride’s lyrics and vocals are phenomenal here and it stays consistent throughout!

Fav Tracks: Say Hey Kid, Billy Not Really, Up My Sleeves, Big Dipper, Fuck Me Out, Black Quarterback

Least Fav Track: Have A Sad Cum BB
