What's up with critics getting erect by every grime record

Shoot I was excited about this after first listen but the more I listen the less I like this. It's a pretty choppy, stale experience with only a couple actually good tracks.

Kano certainly seems focused on flaunting his rapping ability more than his songwriting skill on this one, and that rapping ability is present for sure. There's just a lot of annoying pop tendencies on this that drag it down a little. Skepta, Giggs and Kano have all been shown up by Slowthai and Little Simz this year in grime. The oldheads are lagging behind!

I suppose Dave evens things out though, sorry Dave.

If you are making a "woke rap" record, you either fail spectacularly, or you make an AOTY contender. Kano manages to do neither on this album.

Hoodies All Summer is a great concept for a record, but when it comes to execution, it is critical to nail it perfectly. Kano does not accomplish this, but neither does he fall flat on his head. The lyricism is good, but I feel like beats often weigh the beat down, and I am not a fan of Kano's flow some of the time. Case and point - Class of ... read more

Kano’s lyrics mainly focus on street life and racism, and he covers these topics really well.
Take the song "Trouble", for example. It starts off with these pianos that give the song a positive feel, but this feel is interrupted by an audio clip of a stabbing. This is done so to show the listener that crime is inescapable. We then cut to the choir singing 'Trouble, Trouble / I don't need no trouble'. This is very heartfelt, as it further emphasises this harrowing fact. The ... read more

Kano deserves to go down as one of, if not the most influential and creative pioneering innovators of the UK rap genre and this album is a taste of the outstanding talent this guy has, hopefully we'll see far more from Kano for years to come. From start to finish Hoodies All Summer contains masterful artistry and production virtually unmatched in its genre, this album rivals the likes of Konnichiwa and Grey Area in every way. The subject matter of the album focuses on the experiences faced in ... read more

I always saw this album sitting on the 'best albums by critics' tab and thinking I should check it out eventually. After watching Top Boy and realising that Kano is a rapper and this was his album, I had to check it out. Needless to say, I am very glad that I did.

Hoodies All Summer explores what it is like growing up and living in alarming areas of London. It is clear that this subject matter is important to Kano and therefore, it is spread throughout the entire album. Tracks like 'Trouble' ... read more

Buen album. Me parecio interesante el toque "dance" que toma el piano en algunas pistas.

Grime legend and the epitemy of a great grime flower, Kano came back with his criticly acclaimed, 2019 album Hoodies All Summer. The record opens very strong with 3 good, politicaly inspired tracks. Kano expresses more talent when he is rapping about more political content. The tracks filled with better content are weaved together with: good storytelling, nice punchlines and great imagery, especially with lines like 'Politician hush don't make a sound, been oppressing us, couple centuries now ... read more

Kano tries to mix rap and pop together to mixed results. Some tracks like fresh and fun grime rap, and others feel like 2013 mediocre, overplayed pop rap or is ruined by the feature.

FAV TRACKS: Free Years Later, Trouble, Teardrops

WORST TRACKS: Can't Hold We Down (feat. Popcaan), Bang Down Your Door, Got My Brandy, Got My Beats (feat. Lil Siilva), Class of Deja (feat. D Double, Ghetts)

I m a huge Kano fan. Made in the mannor is actually one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time tbh, not those that I think are the best, but those that carry sentimental value fpor me personally. And, apart from the Ghetts feature , I think this was very very dull. Not mush is happening, a step back imo. Great acting in top boy though)

These critics really overrated this and overinflated peoples' expectations. Kano's best album hands down, more accessible and good production without corny circa-03-grime beats thrown in. That being said, he's still pretty mediocre and not without his corny bars.

Kano brings his best lyricism to date and while it's not his best work. It's still an absolute amazing album and deserves high praise.
