"The Blue" is a great return to Death Cab For Cutie's earlier roots! The production is great, Ben Gibbard's lyrics are a breath of fresh air and the EP contains some of their best work in a long time!

Do you remember how when you were younger and Ben Gibbard's writing was better?

Hate to be the guy who talks about how good the older stuff was and won't let the band move on to newer sounds.... but I'm gonna be that guy. I really do miss the sparse aspect to earlier DCFC that would bring out the folk influence via emotional textures done with so little. Here the music doesn't feel as meaningful

Not much to say on this, you've heard plenty like it before. Much like their recent album this just comes across as effortless and completely safe. They've lost that indulgent emo charm and their indie rock sound is akin to drifting through a plain open sea. Pleasant but totally uneventful. Not a fan of this direction and I really don't know how much longer I will follow this band into the dark (had to).
