Think ‘Dangerous’ but 19 years on. That’s the best way to sum this album up.

Michael is often tacky but considering how garish Jackson’s taste could be, it winds up seeming almost respectful.

A.V. Club

Michael gets no points for its unintentionally honest portrayal of Jackson as an emotionally stunted social pariah enabled by a legion of sycophants looking to exploit him.

Spectrum Culture

During its best moments, Michael is catchy as hell, but even then, it’s the type of catchy that’s more aggravating than anything.

Always thought these songs were unbelievably corny for Michael to have sung and written them. I was not very surprised, then, when Sony admitted the labels had used an impersonator and several "close associates" of Michael's as ghostwriters to complete unfinished songs. Whether the rumors are true or not, its still a sad and regrettable attempt at a postmortem cash-grab.
'Michael' is as uninspired as its title, filled with unsuitable and unmemorable guest features. The revealingly named 'Behind the Mask' is lively but the backing vocals sound badly produced and rushed, and that's as worthwhile as things get - reeaaaaaaally getting close to a shameless cash grab.

No matter the many questions that somewhat spin around Michael Jackson's legacy, it'll never not be awkward listening to a Michael Jackson "posthumous" album that's not even performed by Michael Jackson. People unfairly pick a lot on this kind of release, but this one has a good, big reason to be. Shameful, Sony.
Ok look...this is shameful that I have to review this on the tenth year after Michael Jackson’s death but I want to save his other albums for another time and I just recently gave this a listen after much hesitation. This album was a total cash grab and Sony made a big mistake by doing this. Especially considering that they got a damn IMPERSONATOR to do three songs on the album. Other than that the rest of the songs were for the most part ok. The only really great songs were Hold My Hand ... read more
